Beware of buying too wide tyres....and several hundred pounds later finding they catch on the chassis or wheel arches. That is soooo frustrating. And make sure that the overall rolling diameter is approximately standard (somewhere around 605mm front and 630mm rear. I have a set of track tyres on 215/45/17 fronts and 235/40/18 rears, and they catch on the wheel arch on almost every car to which they are fitted. Chims, IMHO, run fine on 215 or 225 width tyres, indeed you need a bit of "bite" for grip given the light weight of the car.
One more thing to watch out for, OP - the size of the hole in the middle of the wheel, where the hub sticks through. Chimaeras require 63.2 mm minumum, and that's quite a large size for 4 x 108 wheels. Most are 58-62mm, which simply won't fit.
As Rigga implies, the size chart on their website says the minimum wheel size is 8.25 inches wide, which makes the minimum tyre width 225mm (which will look skinny and undersize) and the max 255mm (which may be too wide for the car. 235-245 on the front however will be a high risk of catching on the inside, and given the already appalling turning circle of the Chim (my Audi A8 and Merc ML both turn tighter), you really don't want to be fitting stops to the steering rack.
The standard TVR size is 7 inch front and 7.5 rear for reasons....wheel arch space and handling.
Be careful if you go wider - you could be £1000+ the poorer and feeling very frustrated.

There's something odd going on there. Note that chims were originally 627mm dia f and 654r and that 245 were one of the standard width fitments. Many Chims run 255 rear with no problems.
We always get a difference of opinion on this. So be it! Not arguing with you TA14, you are correct, many do fit the wider sizes. All TVRs are indeed different, and there's the problem. Adjustable dampers give more adjustment too, but they are not fitted as standard.

I am aware that some people fit 245 and even 255 rears. Some of those who do (Phazed comes to mind) skim their wheel arches inside and re-fibreglass to make room for the wider wheels. The fronts are more critical because they turn, and ride height is a big contributor as many people like that "hunkered down" look, but it adds to the tyre-catching problem.
My TVR expert firmly believes that the handling is worsened by going too wide, and quotes race car lap times to back this up. I am running my track day Chim some times on the 215/235 888s I mentioned above, but prefer it on 215 all round Federals, as it seems to grip better.
Just saying be careful OP, and before you go for wider tyres think if you really need/want that wider size (which generally costs more), as it is really gutting when you fit them and they catch badly. A good friend turned up at a track day last year with a brand new set of Toyo 888s (about £800 worth) on his Griff, 225 fronts and 245 rears. They had been catching on all four corners all the way to the track, and we spent the first hour or so adjusting ride height experimenting with spacers to make the car driveable. I do agree before you say it that 888s are squarer shouldered, but is it a problem you want to risk?

Yes, that would be the default size for 888s because, as you mentioned later, that equates almost to 225/245 for 'standard' tyres which is the 500 spec size.QBee said:

Phazed antics are not relevant to most since he was using very wide rims - was it 9" and 10"?As an aside has anyone heard of 8.25" rims before?

I have 225/50 x 15 on the front and they only just clear the wheelarch. The 245/45 x 16 on the rear are no problem.

These are hand built cars so all are slightly different and also tyre manufactures make there tyres wider than others .
Falken 452`s 255`s are to close for comfort .You will need a 9j rim for 255`s

The 17" s are 8.252 wide and the 18"s are ether 8.75 or 9.75 wide rims .
You might get away with 8.25 on the front .
You could even go 17" all the way round .
I would try and get an ET offset on the front 25 and rear 35
