Was at Bruntingthorpe yesterday with that new magazine 'Test Drive' doing a feature with the Ariel Atom, Porsche Cayenne Turbo, Rolls Royce Phantom and a Smart! Anyway went for lots of blasts round in all of them. Editor asks if he can take the Lambo round with me in it. No probs. One of the curves is a big sweeper you can get around about 80mph max in the Murci in 3rd. Editor trys it at 95mph. Surface was greasy too. Back end goes one way then other, then we spin 6 or 7 times very violently throwing us all over the place for literally 60/70yds and ending up just short of the grass. Never been so scared and did'nt realise how much you get shaken about so much spinning at that speed. Even editor was speechless..
Will remember that at vmax.

Errr. I think I know the corner. I'll show you how it's done in a porsche hopefully at VMAX 7. Greg, will never forget the sideways demo when I demonstrated the 4WD in the damp.

(Did you drive the Atom? if so what were your thoughts?)

Er, and the advertising pay-off for Test Drive is 'MPG more important than MPH?' right?...

I was sent a free copy of 'Test Drive' in the post yesterday, they had my details as it's from the same stable as 'Evo'. A very dull magazine, perhaps they're trying to inject some 'fun' into it.

Bet you went a bit pale.

Last car i spun was an MX-5(Insert Hair dresser jokes here) on a roundabout in the snow/ice. Spun it again to get it facing the right way. Only required one change of underware

I had a whole day of spinning the car on a 1st Lotus day at North Weald airfield last year. We had to make a sharp 90 degree left hand turn at 80 and the first time I tried it I completely 5hit myself.

Once you loose it a few times though it is quite fun.

It probably makes it a bit easier if you have a former Bennetton F1 development driver sitting next to you, have nothing to hit and arent driving a £170K Lambo

What speed did the Roller manage? 20mph?

I got sent a copy of this mag and I did'nt think much of it to be honest. It was a feature comparing the fastest and the slowest cars with the biggest and the smallest I think. Those atoms are a hoot though.

Is that the one Shady took me round sideways in the DB9 at 95mph?

I had my first ever spin a few weeks back on my first session on my first ever trackday (castle coombe).... was in a racing caterham (talk about a serious baptism of fire!) following a caterham R500 to learn the lines....

came out of camp corner and gave it a little too much loud pedal whilst the track was still greasy (greasy castle coombe... eeek!).... was doing +/-70mph and managed to spin about 4 or 5 times down the start finish straight without going off, hitting anyone/thing or stalling the engine... serious brown-trouser moment! especially as it wasn't my car!

if camp doesn't get you at some point quarry will

simonspider, if this was evo we were talking about my question wouldn't arise, but from your description of events I wondered - did the bloke remember 'in a spin both feet in', and is the murcie OK? laundry bills OK ...

That's what happens when you stray from the Evo fold, Simon! [wink]

Seriously though, I hope the car is OK and that they paid for your tyres!

Well its the same publishing group! Tyres are wearing really well actually, hit 8000 miles few days ago, both front and rear about half worn. Would'nt have got much more than 5k out of the rears on the 355 as you know but I think I got 18000 out of the fronts! Lambos fine but getting stonechipped fairly badly - going in for 7500 service tomorrow - about £1500 I believe, time to get a new credit card me thinks..

Don't all Lambos come with ArmourFend from the dealer?

Surprised the tyres are lasting so well as Brunters is very abrasive and that's not your first airfield day!
