Any recommendations for a decent chrono/racing style watch for around £1000?

I like this style of watch but struggled to quickly read the face on the last one I had (Christopher ward something or other).

I think you could just about scrape a Hamilton Pan Europ for that, If you throw a months beer money in as well.

Or for half the price, the Autodromo Prototipo chronos are a lovely classic 70s style racing watch.

Autodromo are nice looking quartz ones, if you want an automatic, these 7750 powered chronos are nice from Steinhart http://www.steinhartwatches.de/en/le-mans-gt.html

I did a bit of window shopping today. Could only find the Hamilton in basic, non chrono style but TBH I was more taken their military style Khaki watches. There was 1 Tissot that I quite liked but it wasn't the automatic that they do and i would ideally like an automatic. In saying that, it was a nice watch and very cheap so it may scratch an itch so to speak. Thinking as i type here, I could actually just buy that Tissot and a Hamilton Khaki and scratch 2 itches smile

The Autodromo watches are very nice but more style over substance. The specs are just too low for the price point for me.

I like the Steinhart then went off it but it is growing on me again. I have an Ocean One Vintage Military so know they are good quality.

It was the quartz alternative of that CW that I had before. I think i actually prefer the slightly more understated and functional style of the quartz one.

I keep suggesting these, and although i don't have one, I really like them. Certina DS1. Can be had for under a grand. i will get one of these sometime later this year probably.

Here's one (silver face and slightly different sub dials, I prefer the cleaner face above)

or under £900 inc metal bracelet

edit: this is nice and has a more 'race' look about it. About £850

This would be my suggestion

Its a big watch and pretty thick but as long as you haven't got teeny tiny wrists you should be fine!!

That Steinhart is lovely, is it the Nav B Chrono? It's usually on a leather strap with some rivet-type things if it is (I think). How wide is it?

I like those Certina watches. Must hunt one down to have a look at it.

I also like the nav-b chrono and being powerfully built I naturally have massive arm canons but isn't it a 46mm or something? I had originally been looking at the Sinn 365 fleiger so very similar style.

My default 'new' chrono for this price range was Guinand, but they've stopped now so I'd save a bit and go for a Sinn 103 in whatever variety appeals most. You get a well made watch, no fuss, classic (& readable) design, full bezel at a sensible price.

Yep. its the Nav B chrono, its on a Toshi strap as I really didnt like the rivet-y strap that it came with. Its 44mm wide + crown so not small
