2012 Polo 1.2 TSI: wastegate valve hiss disappeared
Discussion
I bought one of these 105bhp petrol Polos for my wife last summer. It's a fun car to drive and always made me laugh because it had a really noticeable "dump-valve" hiss whenever you came off the gas.
I just assumed they all did it until I took it in to the VW Dealer recently to get the brakes checked. I had always noticed a lack of bite on the brakes, so was wondering whether there was a pad, disk or calliper issue, which needed sorting.
Anyway they reported back that a vacuum pipe was loose on the servo and this was affecting the brake performance. They refitted it under warranty, road-tested it and sent me on my way. The brakes are certainly more responsive, but my favourite turbo exhaust gas hiss has now completely disappeared. Engine performance is unchanged.
Could the two things be connected, or is it just a coincidence? Are my mid-life Max Power days now over for good?
