Family mini 4x4 - VW Tiguan vs Quasqui
Discussion
Hi all, looking at a small 4x4 as a vehicle now we're expecting out 1st child. I like how they both look but prefer the VW. I like all the toys, auto, leather, nav, climate, etc.
Has anyone driven / owned both or has experience of either, good or bad?
Budget is up to £15k
Already have a 997 for fun so not bothered about engine choice etc

Owned a Tiguan and it was at best OK - thirsty , too big and terrible ride on 18" wheels . Tried a Qashqai and it was gutless - I think the 1.5dci. Now have a Yeti 140TDI 4x4 which is so much better than the Tiguan I wonder why anybody buys them at all. Better economy, better size, quicker , hugely better ride, better equipped (I have elegance trim with swivellig Xenons etc etc ), cheaper and about the same off road (I drive down lots of farm tracks etc. Both cars are amazingly capable on the right tyres in snow and mud )
Sorry I don't actually need 4wd, should have said "4x4 style vehicle"
Not sure I could have a Yeti as they look quite odd!
I am a badge snob sadly but also love the chunky looks of the VW I'm a marketer's dream
Definitely not deterred by a dull drive in fact that's what I want as my 'dynamic' driving annoys the hell out of my wife + it will make my 997 seem even nicer when I get the rare chance to drive it

In that case OP, test drive both.. people have given their own opinions, each to their own merit, but as you have to satisfy your own mind ... the choice as they say is yours...
fwiw, a mate of mine who is a salesman at Nissan raves on about the Quashqui's (he has access to GTR's & Pathfinders) to the point where he prefers to drive one.!
Residuals are very strong for the Quashqui too, even though they donot have the brand snobbery that VW has. Only downside is the lesser spec models are favored by Disability drivers:/

Isn't this everything that's wrong with Pistonheads these days? Why do you feel the imminent arrival of a child requires a 4x4? What's wrong with a, dare I say it, car?Has anyone driven / owned both or has experience of either, good or bad?

With that sort of budget why don't you buy something normal in estate form and pocket some for when sprog arrives?
If you have a 997 then you like fun, why do you think any old engine will do? Boring cars get very boring very quickly. Having something under the bonnet that's either interesting or at least does decent mpg is worth a 10 minute internet trawl isn't it?

I want a chunky little 4x4 looking vehicle so we don't have to bend over to put the baby seat in. I have found 2 I like so was asking for opinions from people who had driven them. Not a "here's my budget, make some suggestions" thread. I think estate cars look pretty rubbish personally and will never own one, I have never understood the fuss about them on here, 6.3 litre engine or not. I think it's posts like yours that ruin this forum, what's the attitude about, telling me to save my money and buy a completely different type of vehicle that I don't want!?

When our first child came along (10 years ago) we bought a VW Sharan.. it was brilliant, massive room for the puchchair & still 5 useable seats.
When second child came along a few years later, I had a Mk.2 SEAT Alhambra as a company car, again, fantastic for the growing family with plenty of room again for pushchairs / beach stuff etc.
Now both children are out of car seats and one uses a booster, were downsizing to a New Quashqui (another company car).
Driving a chunky 4x4 style car or MPV is great, children have much more visibility and if you have younger children, changing nappies / clothes, using a potty on the go is much easier.
One thing I did like with the Tiguan was the boot floor height over the Quashqui though.

centralukvehicleleasing has some cracking lease deals on Tiguan's at the moment - personal lease of £108/mth with 2k deposit - i'd be tempted by that rather than laying out £15k (if that is a viable option for you)
I don't have any link to them by the way, just looking for a similar vehicle to replace our XC90 and saw these deals on the lease thread

Ultimately as with all decisions you should drive them of course, just don't rule out anything else before you do.
Don't take it personally, it wasn't meant to be
