Who else suffers from this?
I have been told by my GBP that I probably have IBS. When I eat, not all the time, but often recently, I bloat out to the point where I get distension of the diaphragm, and causes me to feel short of breath.
I can handle the bloating, but the shortness of breath pisses me off!
Does anyone else have this? What do you take for it? Any pills or liquid that will ease it when it occurs?

Before you start popping pills and potions, what causes it?
Is it only after large meals? Have you tried adjusting diet and portion size? Do drink excessively? Do you exercise?

Certainly after large meals, and 60% of the time after any meal.
I have noticed that bread is a big trigger. Mrs Hythan has coeliac disease so I can switch to gluten free bread for a while and see if that helps.
I don't drink alcohol, and have maybe two cans of coke a week. Sometimes none.
I know my water intake needs increasing, probably alot. I have read that this can be a contributing factor.
Exercise, well, I did, and then stopped after a foot injury. I will sort this out.
I agree I should be looking at causes rather than pills, but I wondered if there was anything out there that I could take should I get a flare up?

Are you over weight?
Nope, I'm 6ft, and weigh 11st 10lbs. My fitness level is poor, evidenced by the 20-30min power walk I just did. Wasn't falling over but certainly felt like I had exercised. I'll be doing this 3 or 4 times a week now and will see if there is any improvement. I've also started drinking that Yakult stuff, which apparently can help.
Yep, I bloat like a beast and have all the usual IBS related symptoms. Sometimes I can't even stand up straight where I'm in so much discomfort!
Paleo diet for me all the way! A quick search will put you on the right track. If I slip off the bandwagon, I end up as I was before so know this works for me as the slightest deviation and I'm a wind machine

Thanks for the replies, I'll take on board and try what's been said.
Right now, I'm bloated without even eating or drinking. If I lay down, it eases, but the moment I stand up, it's back.
Take this morning for example, I got out of bed, measured my belly, and then again about 30 minutes later. I had not eaten or drunk anything at all and I had gained three inches around my middle. Shortness of breath returning again also.
I have a blood test tomorrow to check for inflammation due to a shoulder problem I've had for years, then a docs apt on Wednesday. So I'll see what they say.
