£100K Garage: Jason Hardy

A Ford icon, a Ford pick-up, a Porsche track car and a V8 AMG wagon see to Jason's £100K

Name: Jason Hardy
Previously owned: Vauxhall Corsa 1.2, Ford Puma 1.7, Ford Focus diesel, Ford Fiesta Zetec S, Ford Escort RS Turbo, Mazda MX-5 Mk2 1.8S
Currently owned: Honda Civic Type R FN2 (the one everyone loves to hate) Ford Puma 1.7 track car, Mini One
On the shortlist: "Being only 27 and the sort of person who gets attached to cars my history is short and not very sweet. I've been a bit of a Ford addict since owning my first Puma, a car that introduced me to lift-off oversteer and my wife! While pondering my £100K garage the objectives are (in no particular order): V8 family car, a weekend car, one for the wife and a workhorse. If there's enough remaining maybe I can sneak a classic in as well!Right, lets get spending!"

Mercedes C63 AMG Estate
Cost:
£29,990
Balance: £70,010
Why I chose it: "Well, there is no good reason I could give my wife to make her think its a good idea. Only a petrolhead will understand 6.2 litres! After having a go in one of these a few years back I was hooked; the noise, the power, the feeling that you get when driving it. It made me feel like a kid! Its practicality comes second to its hooligan reputation but the fact I could get prams, dogs and all manner of other things in the boot makes it the perfect car for me, my wife and dare I say it.... kids!"

C63s are popular in £100K Garages! V8 AMG C-Classes this way.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta Cloverleaf
Cost:
£12,500
Balance: £57,510
Why I chose it: "Having never owned an Alfa it's an itch I need to scratch, my wife also loves these so this is her car. Yes there maybe better cars, a Golf GTI for example would be much better but look at it, its so pretty! Plus with a GTI you don't get gorgeous (and expensive) 8C-inspired red paint. Loaded with kit and all the right options ticked this would make a great car to use everyday. Did I mention how pretty is is?!"

Alfa's GTI alternative for sale on PH here.

Porsche 944 Turbo
Cost:
£8,995
Balance: £48,515
Why I chose it: "After owning and modifying my current Ford Puma track day car I need something to fill that void. Something I can use at the weekend, the occasional track day and get my hands dirty with. Oddly enough it was while watching Discovery Turbo favourite Wheeler Dealers that my interested in the 944 Turbo was first spiked. Condition isn't overly important for this one, as long as it's solid enough I can carry out most of the work myself. It would probably spend most of its time on axle stands in bits with a flat battery as I rip the interior out and turn into a proper track car! I've also loved 80s sports cars and this one in white has a certain coolness about it."

This way if you're after a 944 for track or road.

Ford Ranger
Cost:
£22,899
Balance: £25,616
Why I chose it: "Why? Simple, its what I'd spend most of the time driving. I work in a granite quarry so there's no way I'd take the Merc to work, the dust would ruin it! I've never owned a 4x4 or a pick-up and I just like it. Its big, practical, looks good and keeps me in touch with Fords. Fit a towbar and I can lug the Porsche about as well."

Also got a commute to a granite quarry? Ford Rangers for sale here.

Ford Escort MkII RS2000
Cost:
£19,995
Balance: £5,621
Why I chose it: "Tell me why I shouldn't! Stick in the garage and watch the value rise. My dad had a MkII and I've always been jealous of those who grew up driving in the era that these were around. I'd stare at it for hours. Take it to shows and let other stare as well."

"That leaves £5,621, enough to get the 944 track day prepped with a cage, coilovers, bucket seats and some sticky tyres... Or enough to fuel the Merc for a month!"

Old Escorts for collections, stages, road and track for sale.

Did not realise that old Escorts had reached that price, £5k would buy a decent bike to add to the garage.

Good collection. 944 Turbo's are fantastic cars, Escort is a great period classic, and the Merc won't get many dissenters. If only the Ford Ranger was of the 70s or 80s classic variety, then I could relive my Tamiya RC car days from my youth.

I love that RS2000. Numbers all over the place on the odo though - although I'm sure it's not an issue it would play havoc with my OCD silly

No! Use the bloody the thing! Can't stand cars sat in the garage not being used!! It's not "£100k investments"!

Good all round selection.

Agree as has been said, £5k could go on a nice bike!

I didn't know RS2000 had the RES2000 sticker on the front spoiler.

hmmmmm bit vanilla this one ... and guessing that's the reason for so few comments ... I do like the RS2k but wouldn't pay that much for one, even with a fictional wedge.

Other than that the others are all a bit 'meh' ... not for me at and surely if its a fictional 100k, why not just use the Merc as the workhorse as well as family wagon ... makes sense to me

I didnt expect many to go mad for the choices I made, I looked at the 100K as a realistic budget for people to aspire to. No way would I be able to go out and spend 100k in one hit but over the course of a few years its do able.

We've all done dream garages and its easy to fill them with Ferrari's and Porsche. With this is went for stuff I could use and enjoy on a regular basis.

With the left over a 5k I could've gone for a nice bike. Something like a well spec'd downhill Orange MTB and a roof rack for the Merc!!

Have to agree with this except I don't even understand spending £30k on a fast estate Merc. It's not like you can really put your foot down with the family, kids and dog in tow, in fact I don't really get fast estates period unless you spend most of your time in it alone and still need the extra space or it's your only car so has to fulfil duel duties. Sorry OP, not my favourite £100k garage so far.

Can anyone see the day when a Mk4 Fiesta will command 20k plus ?...........Ok, laugh if you want. I can remember when many Mk1 Escorts when recycled made fine washing machines !!

Except, why is it not possible to just like an estate because you like the shape? The practicality then becomes the icing on the cake.

Rs2000 looks lovely but I hate adverts that tell you all about the model of car rather than anything at all about the actual example they are selling.

Agreed. As we speak I am writing for one or two historic car sellers: photoblogs do miracles for sales. Thanks to google and smartphones.

RS2000 looks good in full rally trim.

Some very good options there. Owning that RS2000 my Professionals impersonations would go over board! Soft perm, jumping over the bonnet and handbrake turns all SOPs
