Hi,

have you insured one of your cars for a day before? If so, could you recommend an insurer who is good value? I asked my own insurance company but they said they don't do that. I just did an online quote with another company which came out at £35 which seems like a lot.

I'm selling my old car and it's not currently insured. I don't want to take any risks if someone came to view/test drive. FYI I'm selling a Mazda6 for £1950 so you can understand wanting to spend as little as possible when I'm trying to get rid of it!

Am I right in assuming that as it's not insured, it's SORNed?

But why would you insure it for someone else to test drive it? Surely that's the buyers issue.
Also as mentioned it needs to be Sorn'd if not insured and kept off the road.

Ask your insurer to add it as a temporary additional vehicle - anywhere from £25 a week. My XF is currently costing £45 a week with no biters so I'm tempted to take out a new policy payable on monthly instalments that can be cancelled without penalty. This was the suggestion from my broker, A plan.

I've just looked into this online.

Was not aware of the current rules it seems! I didn't realise that the car can't be sitting on my drive uninsured and taxed - it needs to be sorn'd when uninsured.

On the insurance point - fair enough - it's the buyers responsibility to make sure they are insured on it if they come to test drive.
