Hi All
Has anyone done a body off / rebuild on a cerbera sp6 ? if so did you fit the engine ,gearbox etc before replaceing the body back on as getting that engine out was a pig so exspect it to be a pig to put back in with the body on
Any tips appreciated

I've recently taken AJP8 out for body off and it is pretty tight when taking out with the gearbox still attached. Unfortunately the link above takes you to the wheeler dealer Cerbera episode which is also a AJP engine so I'm sure it does not help you any. Best of luck!!

As a sp6 owner myself with a medium term plan to do a chassis refurb (before it gets bad - actually it's quite happy now, covered in waxoyl :/) , I am interested in this thread

Perhaps if we had a better idea of exactly what gets in the way when trying to lift the body off an AJP8 in-situe, that'd be of great help? If we can reconcile the differences and say "actually, those bits aren't a problem on the sp6" then happy days.

I realise that with either engine in situe, the body has to come up that much higher.

Cheers all for replying
This all started due to a suspect head gasket and a list of jobs [diff bushes etc] and it turned into a body off job and no one seems to of done this on a sp6 according to the internet they all seem to be V8 !! i am at the stage now of having the rolling chasie and wondered did TVR assemble a full rolling chasie complete with engine etc then just fit the body on top or was it chasie /body then fit engine etc ?
Has anyone got any tips when they fitted there engine back in a sp6 ?

leaving the engine in place while you remove the body will be a lot easier for you .

Hi Plastic man
Wish i had known that at the start !! i need to know if owners put the engine etc back in the rolling chasie then plonk the body back on as am at that stage now and a tvr place has said its not possible as you cant get the angle.

You will probably have to put it in from underneath . There are two different chassis , one being particularly awkward where the front pulley sits inside a recess in the front chassis cradle .

Wait.... what?! Some Cerb sp6 engines can't be taken out through the bonnet?

So the consensus is that the engine is better left in situe for a sp6 body lift because the engine is such a bugger to remove with the body present?

People tend to go the droping it out the bottom with the SP6 [this was litteral in my case as i have the bugger chasie number 2 mentioned in the last reply !!] my mate works as a fitter on huge gas turbines and also has a cerb AJP and he said never again laugh
i have just started stripping the engine down [anyone got any tricks for removing the front ballancer stuck on good even using a 1 inch breaker bar plus tube plus good puller plus heat and a lot of o flipping eks laugh]
i am going to fit all the running gear in the chasie and see if the body plonks back on who dairs wins and all that !!eek
will post pics of progress once i learn how to idea
