Not sure whether it's worth a thread of its own, but when I bought my high(ish) mileage M3 (2003 model with 126000 miles), I always thought the gearbox ruined the driving experience slightly.

It used to be a bit sticky, and the heavy clutch didn't help either, but I put it down to probably being a bit tired, and was vaguely on the look out for a replacement 'box.

After a bit of reading up though, I ditched the standard gearbox oil and put some Royal Purple in there instead. This was an immediate improvement, it was a lot smoother. I've recently had the clutch delay valve removed as well, and what can I say? An even bigger improvement. Lighter clutch action, and the gearbox feels much more positive, and is noticeably nicer to live with.

Both fairly cheap fixes, but well worth it!

Sounds great! Think a couple of my cars could do with a gearbox oil change as they are starting to feel ever so slightly notchy.
