Classic insurance and valuation for 964
Discussion
Hi,
My cobalt 964 is up for renewal. They also want a valuation as they have insured it for over 6 years at the same value.
Can anybody recommend somewhere for classic policy 2k miles a year ( actually about 300 but I want to use it more this year) to gets quotes
And what should I say is current value for 1992 cobalt c4
Thanks in advance

There are loads of classic insurers, Locktons (if you are a PCGB member they offer a good deal), Hagerty were great for me as were Classic line.
I would have thought the value was around the £26K mark, check out Impactbumpers.com for a valuation or talk to your Indie, Locktons accepted a valuation from mine for me.

A nice C4 went up for sale last week in the PH classifieds. Asking price was £45K and I believe it is now sold. Yours is certainly as good as that one.My cobalt 964 is up for renewal. They also want a valuation as they have insured it for over 6 years at the same value.

I can recommend Classic line insurance.
They have a standard 1500 mile policy, you can increase the limit with a phone call if you need it and they are also happy to give you an agreed value certificate subject to a suitable valuation by a specialist. They will even cover most recognised track days and can arrange a multi-car policy if you have 2!

Wait I know they went up some I saw were around 20k last time I looked but 40k
I've had this car ten years and can't think of anything I could replace it with but 40k
They can't surely be selling for that can they.
I contacted impact bumpers and they are giving me a quote when I supply some pics.

You do realise that if your car is significantly under-insured and gets nicked you could get nothing!! Insurance companies don't need much excuse....
Sounds like you've been under-insured for a while
Why would you get nothing? Sounds like you've been under-insured for a while

Surely they would pay out at the limit your 964 is insured at. If that's £17k, you'd get £17k - you just wouldn't be able to buy another 964.

That's the way it was explained to me by a certain CC insurance broker.
I asked the same question about 12 months ago on rennlist;

Ended up using John Glynn from impact bumpers, who valued my c4 manual coupe with 90k at £25k.

I was charged an extra £40 or £50 this year to agree the cover for my C2 manual Targa at £25k. My specialist tells me that this is not enough to replace the car like for like and valued it at £30k.
I have sent the valuation through to my insurers so we will see if they ask for anymore premium given the extra £5k that I guess I am asking to be covered.
Funny that the car was valued by the same specialist in 2013 at £16k.

How much is it costing overall I have sent the valuation through to my insurers so we will see if they ask for anymore premium given the extra £5k that I guess I am asking to be covered.

Mine was £440 for agreed 17k
If your car is a second car then I would strongly recommend trying Admiral on their multicar policy. My 1989 930 is insured with them for an agreed value of £45k, for which I pay less than £200 per annum.
I had to take a number of photographs of the car including interior shots and engine and luggage compartment too before they agreed to the valuation.
