Big move in the Swiss Franc....that will feed through to RRP's! If you are thinking of buying a Swiss watch I would do it sooner rather than later.

I'm going snowboarding in Zermatt, Switzerland in a couple of weeks. This doesn't sound like good news for my bank balance frown

Yup. I am going to Verbier with my son for half term...it'll be even more reassuringly expensive.

It's only moved 3% – back to the same level it was in May last year, and still better than it was a year ago.
I think we can dispense with the panic attack.

I think Cheib is referring to the move by the Swiss to remove the Euro ceiling.

GBP to CHF Day's Range: 1.0915 - 1.5548, so at one point almost 1:1 FX rate ouch! Yep expensive holiday in Switzerland at that FX.

Zermatt has never been good for your bank balance regardless of the exchange rate.

Why Not try Crans Montana? Haven't actually been skiing myself but when I was there it was never really busy. Obviously I don't know what the snow is going to be like but my friends never complained that it was bad skiing. Having said all this it was almost 20 years since I was there! It's about half hour drive from Zermatt and has a couple of small towns at the foot of the mountain.

BBC economics bod Jonty Bloom says today:
'If you were thinking of treating yourself to a nice Swiss watch for the new year, you might want to check your bank balance first. It is likely to be 15% more expensive than it was on Wednesday.'

We discussed the Zermatterhof but in the end decided to stay elsewhere. I'm not sure where, as my Dad (who is still snowboarding aged 62) booked it. I booked the less glamorous travel arrangements. I quite agree it's only money, but I enjoy indulging myself in self-pity from time to time.

So pleased I bought two new Omega Master Co-Axials and a Rado Sintra at the back end of last year!

We stayed in Zermatt in Feb 2015... It's no more expensive than anywhere else in Europe.

I don't know why people make such a fuss of it.

You're doing well to know what the prices will be next month.

As someone who goes to Zermatt every year, I can't agree with that at all. Lift passes in Zermatt cost roughly double compared to say St. Anton or Ischgl. In fact I can't think of anywhere where they are more expensive. Certainly the most expensive in Switzerland, which probably means Europe. A pint costs at least CHF 7, Austria starts at about €3.50 = CHF 3.50 (St Anton on average €4.50). Food variances are similar, particularly if you want red meat.

Back on topic, I was in the Rolex boutique yesterday and the saleslady told me that they were expecting an imminent price rise as there hasn't been one for a long time. I'm not sure they will be able to do that coupled with the FX movements. Obviously it may have been a ploy (which failed) to get me to buy.
