I am looking to buy on of these cars.Mainly to fulfill a sad ambition of mine.My Bro had one in the early eighties,& I have liked them ever since! Are they still a usable car as a daily driver? What are the main things to look for when buying one? & What are they like on juice? A neighbor has a MK2,&uses it everday year round, without many problems.I would prefer a decent MK3 with O/D.Pref pre 72,so that it qualifies for free road tax.

I used one of these as my daily drive from 1990 to '95. NO real problems at all provided servicing and things like hoses are kept up together. The other real problem is the old tin-worm - keep eveything well waxed esp. the sills.

The GT6 gearbox is hardly up to the job - look after it, and go for one with overdrive (although that in itself can be a source of grief.

One other thing is that the very late GT6 mark 3s have the swing-spring suspension. This is considerably more trouble free than the rotoflex set-up on Mark 2s and most Mark 3s. Although dynamically swing spring is not supposed to be so good as the rotoflex I think you'd be hard=pressed to tell the difference in evryday driving.
