F**king Oven's broken
Discussion
Here I am, creating the Hairy Dieters Cassoulet (low cal version), for the first time only to discover that my fan oven makes lots of noise but doesn't actually get warm.
More than half an hour wasted trying to pre-heat the f
ker.
BAH! I hope I can get it to turn out OK regardless...
Thank you for reading. That was cathartic. f

Had this with my Hotpoint, quick google and I diagnosed a blown heating element. 30 quid and half an hour and it was sorted.
Doesn't put your dinner plans back on track though!
Thanks, mate! The upper oven is taking the strain and the Mrs is late home so it will be ready in time regardless. A glass or two of wine on an empty stomach and all's well with the world again! Doesn't put your dinner plans back on track though!

The over in question is a NEFF. We'll get it repaired. In the mean time I'll avoid the need for the larger lower fan oven and manage with the upper one that still works. Not the end of the world...

Perhaps an odd suggestion....have you had a power outage? On my NEFF if the clock is flashing and hasn't been reset, the fan makes a noise but the oven doesn't heat up...
Just a thought!
No. I'm afraid it will require an engineer. In the words of Bob the Builder: Can we fix it? No. It's fJust a thought!
ked.if its anything like replacing the element on my hotpoint oven you unscrew a cover plate, disconect the element from its connectors then throw new one in, bang the cover plate back on, and voila - working oven.
i doubt there is a need to pay a few hundred quid for an engineer to do the same thing.

Sometimes a good idea to switch the power off first, but some people like that tingly feeling i doubt there is a need to pay a few hundred quid for an engineer to do the same thing.

Otherwise, it's usually an almost trivial task to swap the element in an electric oven.

eSpares have a video. Doesn't look too hard. I'll see if the Mrs has the original documentation so I can get an exact model match. It would save a lot of bother if I can fix it myself. Looks like allen keys and a screwdriver job...
Do bear in mind that a serial number csan be crucial in such cases. Plus to be honest , its a good idea to put a meter across things before ordering. Whilst it may seem like an element failure it could easily be another component , clock/timer as example(if thats the only timeable oven)Hopefully, spares prices will have changed for NEFF, because back in the day they were horrendous (if you could get them). Which led to the advice "never buy a NAFF".
Good luck with that.
Model number on ours is down the left hand side just inside the door.
Our Neff element failed last year on Boxing day, that was close! Easy enough to replace although as stated above there is a safety by setting the clock which caught me out, had the whole thing in pieces trying to find the fault other than the element before I read about setting the clock to make the oven work.

I've bought a replacement element from
http://www.elementreplacement.co.uk
I hope they do what they say on the tin!
A bit more than £7, though, at £20.
