Does anyone know how to connect thier xbox though thier PC?

I have a PC with a USB wireless adaptor. This is linked to the router downstairs.
I have a crossover cable for the xbox to PC connection. The xbox is set up as automatic config.

I have tried to enable the "Share internet connection" option on my wireless connection, but a message pop up saying that something else is already sharing the connection.
help.

D3 Thanks

sounds like your trying to get your PC to act as a "bridge" -- basically that isnt going to work.
You want to get the xbox to connect to the wireless router directly.

You just need to get a CAT-5e cable from the XBOX to the router.

If this is impossible then you'll need a wireless bridge which is basically a box which you connect to the XBOX via a short crossover cable and makes it wireless. The XBOX thinks it is connected to a router so is happy and the box maintains a connection to your wireless network. Be prepared for a shock on price though - £80-odd last time I looked, which is a big chunk of the cost of the XBOX itself.
So if you can run a network cable direct then that would be a damn sight cheaper.

Your choice.

deano, cat5 cable is really easy to hide under carpet.. just make sure you've got enough cable to do a tidy run...

I've got a run going downstairs to a switch in the living room, will be adding a laptop to the mix soon enough, so want to be able to plug that in downstairs for surfing...

btw, have a look into having your box "modified".. Mine's recently been done and I've installed Xbox Media Centre on it... It's now a massively powerful media player.. bloody good stuff (only now I have to upgrade my Hdd in the PC as it's not quite fast enough for my liking!)

It can be done, but i don't think that she will appreciate my ripping up new carpets that were laid about 3 months ago.
I have put a bid in for a Netgear ME101 on ebay. If i don't get it for the £30 i bidded for. Then i will take a look up uprooting the carpets on the sly

cheers

If you mod your XBOX and you plan to use XBOX-Live then you must get a mod that can be enabled & disabled and remember to disable the mod whenever you connect to XB-Live because Microsoft do check and will kick-ban any modified XBOXes they discover.

Jon's completely right on this, I'm no longer able to use Live following the mod made to my xbox, but I carefully considered it, and the changes made outway the lack of Live (IMPO)

I reckon forget about XBox Live in the long term - a free online muliplay network gaining popularity is KAI at www.teamxlink.co.uk/ . A but more fiddly to set up, but totally free! Also I read about modded hard drives being fitted, causing the bans on Live:

www.teamxecuter.com/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=128

And yes, if you do chip your XBox, get XBMC (media center!) its amazing, and free too, woohoo!

As for plugging your Xbox into the router - should be fine as long as you have DHCP enabled on the router and/or Xbox. This way, it will pick up its own ip address, and communiation with your PC should be easy.

Ohh damn it. I remember reading an article about bridging the Xpox through a PC, from a time before most ISP's offered any form of support for Live, I think it used Gamespy or something similar so it's not true Xpox Live stuff.

I think it was on IGN? Or maybe Practically Networked... I'll see what I can find, however from my encounters with others it seems that the PS2/Xpos are really fussy about going through routers... so your mileage may vary.
