Has fitted winter tyres to their F80? The BMW option is expensive and I thought it would be more economical to fit tyres to the current wheels. Any thoughts?

That's what I did.

Spoke to a couple people about it and made the assumption that BMW winter wheel packages are built for optimum performance in snow. I live in suffolk it gets cold, wet and rarely snows so after speaking to a few owners of m cars with these packages they all said in the snow the package is great but in cold wet weather they were less grippy in the rear. I've been running continental winters on my standard alloys that came with the car and so far they perform very similar to my summer tyres in the summer

I have just sold my 2006 E63 M6 but still have a spare set of genuine BMW M6 wheels fitted with serviceable snow tyres, and a complete set of new snow tyres. They really do make a difference.

Will photograph today with a view to adding to classifieds/ebay.

I've got winter tyres on the M3 and it's great. Didn't bother with the additional wheels, just have the tyres swapped.

Michelin alpin PA4. Looking forward to getting the supersports back on in a few weeks though!

Wheels have sold but the set of new tyres are still in the classifieds.
