I've wondered this for a while:

legally, at a T-junction is there any difference between a blue Left Turn Only sign and a red and white No Right Turn sign? Is there any reason to choose one over the other? Both are circular and therefore orders.

In areas where there are lots of idiots it's better to use no right turn.

In my experience (possibly not always) the Blue signs are when you are turning into a one way street or onto a DC where to turn the other way would put you in danger of a head on.

The red circle "No Turn" sign is usually more of a traffic management thing i.e. they don't want massive queues building up at the junction while people try and turn right across two lanes of a busy road, or they just don't want vehicles going that way

From my observations, blue arrow is for when there's only one route to go.

no turn is used more often when it's easy to hide a little one in a clutter of street furniture and perfectly possible, safe and reasonable to do said turn but for the hidden camera going "click kerching!" "click kerching!" "click kerching!" "click kerching!"

I got 3 points for ignoring one of the white straight ahead arrows on a set of lights about 15 years ago and the offence code was TS10 which is the same as going through a red light, I went through the centre of a big roundabout rather than all the way round.
