Well, since there are a few discussions going on in various threads, I thought it might be interesting to see how the collective views stack up.

While we don't know the price of each yet, a fair guesstimate is that the GT is likely to be about double the cost of the NSX. So, if you were in the position to buy the GT, would you have that, or the NSX and some change?

Of course this can't be an exact science due to the different costs, but it's just a bit of fun!

Neither massively appeals in terms of the specs, so I'd probably have the NSX and some change to buy a proper car with none of this turbocharger or automatic gearbox nonsense. smile

If they were the same price, I'd have the GT.

In spite of the auto gearboxes both are quite appealing to me... though much prefer the Ford's "purer" drivetrain, and it looks WAY nicer to my eyes as well

I'll have to go with the NSX, i'm sure the GT is awesome but I believe that the engineering in the Honda is just that much sweeter.

Shame it never came out like this though...

NSX for me, for the reasons Kambites gave above. And also because the Ford looks hideous IMHO.

I'd go for the NSX and get an old school NSX with the change.

Ford looks bloody amazing to me like something out of a computer game so would certainly get my vote.

NSX promised a lot and ended up after years of hype looking very average to my eyes frown

yes Same as Kambites for me. I like manual gearboxes and n/a engines, so I'd have the more expensive of the two, sell it and buy an original NSX, then pop to my local Lotus dealer smile I'm a bit of a Honda fan though, so I would like to try the new NSX, I'm just not sure it would do anything for me.

Funnily enough, I'm actually in the same boat of being a bit of a Honda fan (and loving a Lotus!) but I guess in the grand scheme of the way the industry seems to be going the GT seems a good compromise to me. Ok, it's a turbo, and has a slushbox, but at least it's not carrying around hundreds of kilos of batteries, electric motors etc

As I put in another thread calling it a slushbox is misleading, it's not a torque-converter it's the same dual-clutch automated gearbox fitted to Ferrari's, Porsches, M3's, RS4/6's, GT-R's etc. While I agree with the preference for a fully manual the market is clearly tipped towards this kind of box. The PDK version of the 911 outsells the manual 4 to 1, Ferrari produced it's last manual car in 2011 etc etc.

It would cost Ford a (relative) lot to produce a manual and for what, 2 sales, maybe 3?

I voted for the NSX but am more than happy that the GT is getting the popular vote here. Part of the reason I love the old NSX is that it's not popular.

Do you really think that that the batteries and motors aren't part of the NSX's performance capability? (I.E. Performance that the ICE alone cannot manage.)

It was definitely the right gearbox to fit, it just means I have no desire to own one. I can't see Ford losing much sleep over that given that it's likely to be an order of magnitude more than I could ever justify spending anyway. smile

Very fair point, was lazy slang on my part.

A double clutch automated manual is certainly preferable to an actual auto, but still worse than having the choice to spec a real manual.

Of course they are part of it, but that's just not the kind of thing I enjoy in a car. That's a preference thing, some people will definitely differ, but for me I want a car for driving involvement and enjoyment, not just outright performance.

Hence the current cars I own...

That said, I really don't think that ICE alone "cannot manage" that level of performance, but that's not the point of the car for Honda. It's a tech showcase, hence hybrid. I do think this is an interesting discussion though. I would love to know what a P1 is like with say only just enough battery capacity to provide the torque fill, but not normally provide extra power. Big weight saving...

I've not go round to reading anything about the 2 cars yet

i voted for the nsx

is it really that close to call between the 2? must either mean the gt has taken a step backwards or the nsx a big leap forwards

Nah, but I didn't set it as "money no object"...

NSX is overly fussy to my eyes and I suspect it'll weigh 300/400kg more with all of the batteries/motors etc, so GT for me, it looks like an absolute weapon - will be interesting to see how they price them.

Eta: so what are the guesstimates on price? 100k NSX and 200k GT? (GBP)
