Chimaera - security weakness
Discussion
Before I say anything, if you know what I'm talking about then let's be very careful about this one and an email won't get you the answer either but I think you should all know that there is a security weakness with Chimaeras.
I took my Chimaera 450 to a local independent who very kindly offered to replace a broken headlamp lens over a weekend.....bloody road resurfacing....loose chippings.
"Just lock your car for me" he said. I did and within five to ten seconds he had the door unlocked and no he didn't just press the button under the door mirror!!!
He told me that this was a problem known to the factory and yet they have done nothing to correct it. The fix is relatively simple so why don't the factory put it right? If the factory and an independent know about this problem you can bet your life the professional car thieves know as well. As far as I am aware this is only a problem with Chimaeras.
Fortunately it doesn't stop the alarm from going off but I would suggest you talk to your dealer or independent about getting the simple fix done. If they don't know what your talking about then get them to talk to the factory.
Hopefully there is someone out there who will at least confirm that I am not talking a load of bulls*?t.

The TVR feature you mentioned exists on many cars deliberately. Without going into details, doors are supposed to automatically unlock in an impact, The technology has been around since the mid-late 90's but is not installed on all cars so I understand.
I can't say where or from whom I found this out from, needless to say they work in industry where they would be in an informed position!
No they are not car thieves!
Jas.

A car with a soft plastic/canvas section can always be opened but that's why the sensible owner doesn't leave any valuables inside the car and always takes away the radio front. The rest is up to the deterrent effect of the flashing red LEDs, the alarm, the immobiliser that ensures you find your car where you left it and (for £99 a year) a Tracker in case someone tows it away or pulls it onto a trailer.
So even if I get the "fix" done that you propose the car's still as fundamentally vulnerable as it was before. Unless of course the fix is to replace the rear screen with an aluminium panel
[maybe a product range extension for Leven Technology?].
The ultimate fix for the Chim owner who's concerned about security is probably to trade it for a Cerb!
