Do I need an MOT certificate?
Discussion
What it says really.
I had my car serviced and MOT'd just before Christmas. The car passed without any problems. On my invoice it says something like DVLA website down, certificate to follow.
Well it hasn't followed!
Do I need to get one from the garage or is there somewhere I can go online to print it off myself?

If you really need a copy (although, other than getting tax from a Post Office, I'm not sure why you would), you can get one from any MOT station - you'll need the V5C and a tenner, mind. You don't need a certificate, just check here to see that it passed: https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status

You could possibly at some point need to produce one but you can always use the vehicle check page on your phone if you get pulled https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk
You only need the reg and make for this

No, they're irrelevant bits of A4 paper. Help save a tree and not bother, it's all available online now.
Curiously DVLA still ask you to send in your "MOT certificate" when you change a car's registration number - and they send it back to you amended with the new number.Claudia Skies said:

Because they know you will need the piece of paper, to prove you still have an mot when they f

The paper cert would be useful if you're selling the vehicle in the near future.
Or you could just take a printout of the [free] online MOT status checker.Claudia Skies said:

2. New MOT certificate printout showing the new registration number. Not the piece of paper I sent in but an actual brand new printout with no mention of the old registration number.
So don't let go of your paper yet!
