I am currently waiting on some help from PH on how to get my ad up in the classifieds.

I normally sell my cars on ebay, (and had a lot of success in the past, no reserve, 1p start), however it appears the charges are now 10% - which if right means it's going to cost me close to £500 eek this can't be right ???

So where else - auto trader ?

I've tried a specialist GTI forum but appears there is no interest in a car once it's clocked over 100k miles

Auto trader for me,

I always find eBay attracts time wasters

I have used piston heads a few times, but I always seem to get the buyers from the trader.

Piston heads £10 and autorader around £40, so a big difference, but a bigger audience with the trader I suppose

Fees on eBay are less for motors. This is what I found:

ees for Motors
If you're selling a high volume of vehicles on eBay, have a look at eBay Motors Pro.

For listings in Parts & Accessories, our standard fees apply.

Final value fees Final value fee - 1% final selling price (min £20 max £35)

So, I read that max fee is £35? I've never sold one, so somebody with better experience might be along soon. I've always been successful through PH, although Autotrader is surely the most obvious?

I sell 1 car approximately every 2 years and none for the past 4 years, so ebay pro is probably not for me...

However I've just checked the fees again and you are spot on

Fees are only 1% of the transaction price (10% for non cars) plus some modest listing costs - so much closer £50 than £500

Right time to get out of bed and get it listed - wish me luck

Ps best also put my phone on silent in expectation of the endless texts - "£2k for cash nowwww"

I have bottled using ebay for now - I don't have the time for the time wasters....

I've stuck up an add on PH for £11.00 (I had to create a new PH account with a different email address)

I sold my car on Gumtree within 4 hours about 3 months ago and it was free then, unless it's recently changed?

Gumtree ???

I aways thought it was the loot of the modern world,...mainly cheap stuff or items with dodgy ownership providence

Its free to put an ad on for your private car.

I think you can sell a couple a year. Over and above that, you pay.

Update for those looking to buy and sell..

Sold to the first person who viewed it ...from an ad on PH

had couple offers at £4k via email and then two lads came, viewed, looked over the paperwork, test drove and we settled on a number just south of £4.5k
