maser brakes stuck on!

Front brakes stuck on and car won't, therefore, move
Strange one? Got in to set off, rear wheels just spun and churned the gravel...
Jacked up the front and the wheels will not turn - brakes are stuck on
Easy out is that the pads could be frozen to the discs due to washing car and the water freezing - but I doubt it is that
Any ideas?

Had this on the Lotus after leaving it parked outside my parents house for a couple of weeks, managed to free it off by rocking it back and forth, although one of the front brakes remained stuck!
Had to drive it down the end of the gravel drive with the wheel locked and it freed off as soon as it touched the Tarmac. Old man thought I'd done a burnout down the drive!!
Just pop the wheel off and carefully lever the pads back with a suitable implement, you might find they free off easily

My last two cars suffer the same thing. High iron content in performance brake pads causes them to rust and stick to the discs. This usually only happens when you wash the car and the pads get wet. Mine can be stuck pretty solid after just a day so I can imagine what yours were like after a week.
To avoid you ideally need to drive the car after washing or at least wait for them to dry for a few hours or until they have stuck just slightly and just move up and down the drive a few time applying the brakes which will prevent them sticking.
As already said having a gravel driveway will make it a lot more difficult to free them as the tyres will not be getting any purchase.

Happens the same with clutches if the vehicle has been parked up for a decent length of time, allowing the engine to warm up and idle for a while to get some heat through to the flywheel helps, then trying to start the engine in gear, with one foot on the clutch and one foot on the brake, if this doesn't work, keep warming the engine for a bit longer and try again.

Is it just me that imagined the OP sat in his car, revving the nuts off it to free the brakes.
After freeing them off, with a gleeful face the OP jumps out of his car only to discover he has smashed all the windows in the orangery with the stones flying out from the rear wheels ?
Not quite that bad, but I did need to get the rake out to level things off a bit! After freeing them off, with a gleeful face the OP jumps out of his car only to discover he has smashed all the windows in the orangery with the stones flying out from the rear wheels ?

The answer is surely not to wash the car without properly drying the discs / pads and, of course, not to leave it standing for so long - drive it!
