Hi, my Chim 400 has a slipping clutch and it will need to be replaced. I`ve read that an engine oil leak could be a cause or maybe it`s just worn out. Anyway I`m shortly going to get stuck in and wondered how heavy is the gearbox? My brother in law clivef replaced the clutch on his 500 Griff` and mentioned just how heavy it was. It`s a 96 Chim 400 with the later type T5 gearbox, thanks for any help.

75lbs dry weight is a fair lump of metal to have sat on your chest and then shimmy out from under the car! smile

That's not heavy, I have lifted cast iron BB V8 inlet manifolds heavier than that.

Did you take the 'box out of the S2 at any point?

The T5 box is light and manageable, made easy by the gearbox coming out before the bell housing needs to be removed. Buy front and rear oil seals for the box before you start the job, and buy new prop bolts and nylocs to be safe, I have a clients Griff 500 T5 out for a sort out right now.

Hello Ged, no I haven`t had the gearbox out of my S, it`s a few final bits to do after I lifted the body to replace the outriggers. I did replace a worn diff a couple of years ago and that was quite a heavy diff.
