Evening All,
Just a general question really, if anybody would like to give me their opinion on the mk4 Mondeo.
I have got my eye on a 2.0tdci/139g/km facelift 60reg,its only done 26k miles at a garage locally, the car seems fine, with service history etc.
Especially the engine, and what do you think of the 2.0tdci psa engine, from what I can gather, it is more reliable than the 130 in the previous mondeo? Cheers.

Part of the DPF/emissions control bks used on some PSA diesel engines. Expensive when it goes wrong.

I've got a 2007 galaxy with the 2.0tdci engine and it doesn't have eolys fluid.

So far, it's been great. As long as it goes, sounds and feels OK then it'll be reet.

I had a 10 plate one from new (Titanium spec) and did 101500 miles in it in three years. All it needed apart from tyres and pads was one brake light bulb.

Was as tight as a drum when it went back, still looked brand new inside and out, not a squeak or a rattle anywhere. One of the best cars I've had. Good economy as well.

I did 30k in 12 months in zetec estate with that engine.
No issues at all.
I would say the only downside was that it wasnt as economical as I expected it to be, Iaveraged about 47 mpg on mostly motorway driving

no eloys fluid thats only the 1.6 cdci

i also have a 60 plate 2l tdci Mondeo albeit mines is now rather north of 210k miles. still on the original clutch/flywheel turbo and injectors. and it gets a very hard life

been absolutely bulletproof bar me grounding it and ripping on of the sensors off the DPF resulting in a £140 bill for a replacement. only thing to watch is to remember and change the fuel filters as dealers are lazy buggers and don't bother because its a pita job on the Mondy

in regards to economy mines is mapped making 197 bhp/325 lbs/ft and averages a solid 54mpg with some spirited driving in places

any other questions feel free to ask

I had from new until march last year a 60 plate Mondeo 2.0 tdci as a company car ,covered 105000miles and it never gave me any problems .
I have now moved onto a 14 plate Mondeo 2.0 tdci business edition have done 10000 in that and again no problem.

Did the bhp and torque gains come from just the remap? Where was it done, and is it a generic map for the engine or something specific for your car?

I did 173k miles in a '09 2.2 Tit X in 4 years from new... great car.

Quick enough, comfortable, huge inside, well equipped and decently built - nothing broke/fell off, and the only work it needed other than routine servicing was for a split turbo pipe at c.80k and a seized bonnet latch.

So your looking at between £8500-£10500 right? Flywheels and injectors are a problem but this seems to be an issue for most modern cars now. Remember that when you go to sell it on, there will be thousands of other mondeos on the market too which you will have to compete against plus the depreciation

Look at other options:

Found a VW Passat 2011 facelift saloon 2.0 tdi bluemotion on autotrader (35,000 miles) for £9,991 with 60 MPG. Will hold its value for a very long time and be very reliable

Found a 2010 Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI PD Laurin + Klement with all the leather etc on autotrader (40,000 miles) for £9,495 with 51 MPG. Holds its value for a while still

Found a 2012 Seat Exeo 2.0TDI SE Tech with leather and nav on autotrader (30,000 miles) for £9,990 with 58 MPG average. Again holds value for a while

many more options and I myself wouldn't go with the mondeo.

Thanks everybody, The 2.0tdci/psa does seem to be quite a reliable engine, if a little thirsty, and the ceramic coated catalyst/dpf doesn't seem to be problematic afaIk.
Any more thoughts anybody.
