At the moment I'm in Singapore waiting on a Singapore airlines flight operated by Silkair.

When we left Brisbane the checkin lady said she couldn't issue our boarding cards for our connecting flight to Phuket... We thought this might be because we asked oif there was any business seats available and she said we had to wait and see.

When we got to Singapore we went to the Singapore airlines desk like we were told to and the lady there said we were actually on standby with 15 other people as the plane had been over booked and our luggage had been removed but we couldn't get it in arrivals. She said we may need to go on the next flight at 13:20 instead of our schedule 08:30... This worried us as we are on a really tight schedule at the other end and it wouldeam a few things would not be possible.

We had some food, pondered on how we had booked this flight over a year ago and wondered why we were on standby when we had booked so far in advance.

This prompted another trip to the desk where the lady gave us tickets straight away after a phone call.

So does any one know what they were actually playing at? It's left me confused and worried our baggage won't be where it should be :-(

Sounds as if they've been doing the naughty overbooking trick. Basically selling more seats than are available as there is always a few people who don't turn up. Sometimes they all turn up and you get issues like this.

I'd be kicking up merry hell. I've been caught by this a couple of times and each time I've ended up getting the flight for free and "compensation." Though it does help when you work in the industry and make it known that you know exactly what they are upto.

Hood luck, but I would be asking them to locate your bags now. They should be able to tell you where they are.
