How "essential" is air-con?

Will it get very hot?
Yes. Moving slow (not stopped) is worst as the rad heat pushes into the cabin a bit.

affect re-sale?
A little probably.

can it be retro fitted...
Anything could be done given £££ obviously. I dread to think of the cost....

and how effective is it?
Seems to vary a bit. Mine's ok. Others are like the arctic wind.
I couldn't live without it in the Noble.
Just to add that I'm a great lover of open windows and noisy engines (!), but on the noble its a bit tricky in hot weather as all the hot air from the front radiator washes into the cabin through the windows if you open them. Its bearable in the depths of winter, but in the summer, not so good =/
Also remember A/C will keep your windows free from misting up when it's raining.Incidently if you open your side windows whilst on the move you will draw into the cabin hot air from the engine bay.Your gear stick and handbrake wil get very hot first and the whole cabin will warm up.According to Lee they are aware of this but have given up trying to cure it. He says keep your windows closed and swith your A/C on.
