How to sell 2 year old car...oh the aggro.
Discussion
A little while ago I posted a thread on here about wanting a 7 seater. Move forward, decided on Ford S Max. Having set a budget in mind as I want it paid up quite quickly, most of the vehicles in my budget of around 6k are of the independent dealer stock, as the age is a bit too old or the mileage too much too risk a franchised dealer offering warranty upon.
So we move to my car...a 62 plate Citroen DS3 with 22k on the clock. It's worth probably 7.5k trade Seems there is too much money tied up in it for the independent dealers to part exchange it, ie they don't want the financial liability. Also they say that a car of that age is great dealership retail stock and people buying a car like that want all the expensive coffee and glass palace treatment.
I could settle the finance on it with no issue to sell it privately, but from past experience anything with a price that needs a loan to buy it puts off private buyers with the amount they are borrowing. The warranty is up after 3 years, so any new buyer would get the remaining 6 months warranty, but is that enough?
So roll on and I go to a few large dealerships who sell multi brands in their used depts so have plenty of outlets, yet all I seem to get is "We're not buying stock in at the minute" or "we don't buy cars in off customers, but we can part exchange no problem."
So I can see why the likes of webuyanycar are thriving when it is nigh on impossible to dispose of a youngish vehicle.
It was also most refreshing the look of the salesmans horror in suggesting that I was happy to drive a 7 year old car with 100k on the clock, like it was not socially acceptable.
What advice / experiences have you got of selling a similar aged vehicle.

Had a new Fiesta on 2yr PCP in 2010. Had all the bull from the sales manager at the dealership saying "Bring it back in 2yrs and if it's in good Nick and low mileage I'll buy it back off you for stock-don't just give it back to Ford because they'll not give you anything over the GFV for it." GFV was £5500. So around 6 weeks before the end of year 2 I popped in to see said sales manager thinking I may get a decent deal as on the forecourt slightly older higher mileage cars were still £8495 screen price.
My car had 13k, serviced there and was truly mint.
Offered me £5200! WTF!!
P/exd it the following week at a smallish Indy for £7200 against a £4k Audi. They paid the outstanding finance and took the rest off the Audi price. The Audi was at the right money too.
They put the Fiesta on at £7995 and it was still there 2months later.

Sold my last car privately. It was about 18 months old.
Way I did it? I got a price from WBAC, checked out autotrader and ebay sold prices over the last few months for similar vehicles.
I set my price between the two. Wrote a good, honest and sensible advert with good quality pictures. It sold within 2 weeks.
I wouldn't hesistate to do the same again. I got £3k more than WBAC had offered.
Not everyone wants/needs finance. Bloke who bought mine just did a direct bank transfer. He said he actively avoided finance and main dealers and hence got a good deal.
