should I still be exhausted?
Discussion
Went down with flu on Boxing Day.(not man flu..the real thing unfortunately) Spent 5 days in bed then it turned into pneumonia! Tried to survive for a few days before making a monumental effort to drag myself to the GP, who confirmed pneumonia and put me on a 7 days course of 500mg antibiotics.
Went back to work last Monday and finished antibiotics Tuesday. My job is physical and is currently in a large listed building with no heat. By the end of each day I feel shattered and it all starts again tomorrow!
I'm going to see the GP again Tuesday to see if he thinks it's all cleared up or not. But in the meantime, do you think it's right for someone of 47, reasonably fit as far as I know, to feel whacked still after this kind of illness? I'm one of those who think for some reason that one day your ill, the next you carry on like nothing happened! What are your thoughts?

I came down with the flu whilst skiing just before Christmas. Mine hasn't been that serious but I'm still feeling wiped out by it and I'm struggling to shake it. Down feel that bad and then have a coughing fit that's a full body workout.
I don't have a physical job but try to keep my fitness up (gym 4-5 times a week). Today I've been out and done a short (6 mile) walk and I got home completely knackered.
So - based on yours having been diagnosed as turning to pneumonia, if you've had a similar flu strain I'm not at all surprised.
Just wish I knew how to shake it.

So likely to feel pretty knackered for some weeks then?!!I don't have a physical job but try to keep my fitness up (gym 4-5 times a week). Today I've been out and done a short (6 mile) walk and I got home completely knackered.

I had it early early December too.
Wiped out for several days then developed post viral vestibular neuritis (visual disturbances and loss of balance).
That lasted a couple of weeks and ended up seeing a neurologist and having an MRI brain scan.
Only started feeling 100% just recently, so yeah, post viral illness will funk you up!
I'm 38, pretty fit and otherwise disease free btw.

Blimey, been some nasty stuff going around over Christmas! Sounds like I got off lightly, but whatever the case, it appears that I'm not a whimp because I still feel out of salts a week later. Phew, I'm one of those who always thought he was unstoppable, but as I get older I'm starting to appreciate the body needs a rest sometimes.
Quick update:
Partly motivated by this discussion I thought I ought to get checked out. Just visited practice nurse and had a pretty good check over. Couldn't find any problems and was told it was most likely post-viral cough. Can take quite a while to shift.
Hope everyone's feeling better soon!

funny that, I'm off to the doctor this afternoon to see if I've recovered too! Partly motivated by this discussion I thought I ought to get checked out. Came down with flu just before Christmas and still struggling to get through a day at normal pace. Now have a cold too (and hating people who term a cold 'the flu'. I would take this everyday over the flu) and just feel s
t all the time.
This seems to be normal for everyone who has had it

My mother in law infected me with some sort of virus on Christmas day. As I type, I am approaching normal again though I have a lingering cough. The early stages involved nausea and a nasty cough along with a kind of mental depression and fever. Then it became a regular sort of throat infection, with oddly no nasal symptoms at all. But the most notable factor was that it was the same day after day with little sign of improvement.Long story short - a weird virus, difficult to shake off, long recovery time. Lots of people are complaining about having had a very similar thing.
