Has anyone put a plate on retention since Oct when the road tax bit changed? I am looking to take a plate off my car prior to selling, looked through all the web site info and form, but its not clear what happens about the road tax that I have paid for on the existing plate.
I see that its now automatic to get a refund if you sell a car, and the relevant registration docs to change the owner are received by DVLA, they issue a refund. I wonder whether this is what happens when I submit a form to put the plate on retention.

I see that I have to apply for road tax at the same time as submitting the retention forms, which will be on the new allocated plate, so guessing its not transferred.

Any one able to confirm.

They will only issue a refund upon the change of owner, not if you change the plate. Whatever tax you have on the car now will continue to be valid.

Ok thanks. Just wish it had explained that on the website, confused because states you can apply for tax at the same time.

as above.

They just move the details across to the new reg,

Keep checking here for when its done https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ and you can see the tax expiry is the same date you had on the old reg.
