Hi,

I am just about to purchase a Snooper SR-6 Neo after tonnes of evaluation. This covers all cameras and is same price as Road Angel 2.

Check this link:-
www.gps-systems.co.uk/new_road_angel.asp

This site goes through the main detectors, snooper, road angel, origin etc and offers a grid showing which camera types they cover.

At the moment, I am using a GPS unit with known camera locations downloaded onto it, which is good for fixed, but no good for mobile, and has no radar or laser cover.

Let me know how you get on.

Origin b2 mounted just to the right of the steering wheel, with the GPS receiver on the dash, just under the tax disc. Power from behind the fag lighter, with a switch added. LRC100 Laser jammer mounted in the cheese grater just above the number plate (perfect fit), wired through the engine bay into the b2. Very tidy fit.

Don't !!!!!

I just breathed a sigh of relief after shifting my S6R Neo on Ebay. I was really disappointed with it because:
- it takes ages to get satellite lock
- it easily loses satellite lock
- it doesn't bleep/flash or anything when it loses lock - so you don't know you are flying unprotected
- you cannot select just the relevant radar bands so it goes off all the flipping time
- the screen is crap and hard to read - it is actually smaller on the real unit than it is made out to be in the promotional photos
- Snooper wholesaler is a nightmare to deal with
- the updates are quite expensive

If I were you, I would forget this, honestly it is pretty crap. Get a GPS based system, preferably one with laser - after all radar is not used very much these days in mobile traps - laser is the way forward. Also, remember that there is pressure to make anything with radar/laser on it illegal again. Therefore something with a detachable laser sensing probe may keep you on the right side of the law. All IMHO of course, but I owned one and kicked myself on day one because it was alot of money - and a cheap sat nav-PDA combo would probably have been more use and much better value.

TomTom III is a great bit of GPS software, and the CheckPoint addition that can be bought for it allows users to upload/download information such as camera positions, etc.

OK, it won't do laser and it's only as good as the last upload....but it's not going to become illegal. And it'll tell you how to get home when you haven't got a clue.

I have an Origin B2 and although its very good I wouldn't recommend it to others. The build quality of the unit and PC cable is poor. Also the cost of subscribing to database updates is £50 per year!! Road Angel2 you can pay £99 for lifetime updates. Finally there are a lot of wires with the B2, and switching it from one car to another regularly is not really much of an option.

To be honest in my opinion its not worth spending money on a laser detector, because by the time your unit registers the laser they've probably got your speed anyway. Radar - this is worthwile but be aware that there are moves to make radar detectors illegal in the next year or so.

The one very good thing I have found with B2 is that its features are excellent ( I think these are also on Road Angel 2 tho). I also found that the main database was updated very regularly, so it nearly always had the latest mobile roadworks cameras on there.

TUS 373 - Thanks for the feedback.

I already have a Tom Tom Go with cameras on it, but am still interested in that little extra protection, ahem, at least until it may become illegal.

Has anyone any positive feedback for any detectors they are using?

I have RA2, quick to get satellite lock, never once missed a speed camera, and it doesn't look at all out of place on the windscreen, in fact, it suites the cockpit with it's curved cowling! So, in essense, its very simple to use, very stylish and does exactly what it's supposed to do, can't ask for much more really.

No problem - I thought I should bring this to your attention before parting with your money. I gave up using it with the Tuscan a year ago - it could not keep up with the car and there were wires just everywhere - it looked soooo messy.

I cannot comment from personal experience, but the Road
Angel does seem to have a big following with TVR owners. The Road Pilot is also said to be very very good indeed - but it does cost more.

I'd agree with the earlier RA2 comment. Seems very reliable, looks great with the Tuscan interior (especially with the visor on) and it even tells you if the camera is enforcing in the direction you are travelling.
