Its a year since my no 19 year old son passed his test. Over the last 12 months it has cost me £1700 to insure him for his Skoda Fabia 1.4. (No black boxes either)

I was thinking that it would be great if after a year the insurance cost comes down to £1200

I was extremely surprised to get the renewal letter on saturday new price £554.

I reckon thats pretty good, and much lower than expected. In fact the difference between this new price and last years price is more than the value of the car!

For comparison's sake last year at 17 my insurance cost just over £1300, with a black box (going without was about £450 more expensive) on a 2004 Fiesta 1.4, and I have recently had a renewal quote of £750, despite scoring the highest number of 'points' each month for not winding the box up. A simple search on a comparison site later and I found myself a quote for £644 with another company, most significantly with no box! :-)

I should add that the quote also includes £18 added because somebody drove into the back of my Dads car last year (he is a named driver on my insurance + it was a non fault incident), apparently being crashed into in a completely random event means you are suddenly a 'higher risk' driver, what a load of bks... I can't complain too much though since having my parents on as named drivers does help my quotes overall!

That is a very impressive saving in the first year though I have to say blueg33.

When I took out the iurance there re black box policies that were more expensive than the £1700 I paid, but most were around £1700 which I guess is similar to yours.

Mrs Blue is on his policy, but she is claim free.
