Hi guys

Never had anything other than a manual stick before so please excuse my confusion

I've just picked up my LP and so far I've only driven it in auto mode. It was quite jerky at first but i'm sure it will smoothen as I get more experience

If I drive in manual, the question is, e.g. in a normal manual car if i'm going at 40mph in 4th gear and then see e.g. a traffic light and need to come to a stop I either go into neutral and coast to a stop or I put my foot down on the clutch, come to a stop and put it in neutral. With the LP though whats the best way to come to a stop in manual? Would you a) have to shift down the gears one by one, b) go very quickly go from 4th to 1st by clicking the down shift v.fast? or c) could you double click the paddle shifts and go from 4th to neutral and coast to a stop?

Also, when parking is it best to leave it in 1st and then switching off or in put it in Neutral?

I'm sure the dealership explained all this but I was too preoccupied with the sound wink

A lot of threads over the years on e-gear / F1
Its a learning curve for me also however I think I am right in saying (and I have done in my very brief ownership)if I am in second or third going slowish then just pull both paddles and coast in neutral.

I park mine in neutral at home to push in garage on the flat.

I understand turning off in 1st leaves it in gear which means not having to use the handbrake but I would suggest you should also.

Thanks TISPKJ. Much appreciated. Being able to coast in neutral would definitely be useful. It certainly is a learning curve lol.

just double check that in case I am wrong but cant see why it would do any damage.
obviously you need to be at a stop before engaging gear again.

I've never driven my car in Auto, e-gear is just awful in auto.

If slowing for lights in normal or sport manual(cant remember what it does in corsa) the car will down shift for you even though its in manual. In the situation you describe I'd either just brake and let the car do the gears or be a noisy sod and down shift my way through the gears.

My car beeps at me if I leave it in neutral so I leave it in gear which shuts it up.

Coasting in any car isn't a great way of coming to a stop, I find that e-gear can be reluctant to go back into gear from neutral if you're rolling so I'd tend to avoid coasting.

Sorry forgot the auto bit.

Mine is super smooth but I only used for 90% of the first drive home, cant fault it in my opinion but I now drive it in manual all the time.
It will overide the manual element if it considers your not in the correct gear at any time.

As I said above I would always come to a halt after selecting neutral before knocking back in gear again.

i downchange 6543 for smooth engine braking, then flick into neutral to save the clutch

no problems then getting back to 1st ( or even directly to 2nd ) before coming to a complete halt, but a blip of the throttle helps the change

i've never parked in neutral, but a lot of people do

Perfect thanks all . will try out the manual box tonight weather permitting

Finally, and I know its a heavily discussed issue, but is normal unleaded a no-no for the LP? I always used normal fuel in the 911.

I have always pulled both paddles into neutral when approaching lights, at my last service the clutch had minimal wear. I never use auto.

Never use auto on my Performante but as 2nd gear downshifts are so outrageously loud and good fun I always change down the box when slowing before knocking it into neutral at lights etc

I think you will find slow speed manoevouring and particularly reversing uphill is the clutch killer so avoid at all costs.

Always leave space between you and the car in front whilst queuing and make sure the gear is properly engaged when moving off

So I took it for a spin last night. I used manual and its all good, much better than auto smile

However something strange happened.....

I reached my destination, parked up then returned an hour later. Switched her on, let her run for a minute, engaged 1st, accelerate and then the car shot forward and then immediately all the wheels locked up and the car came to a standstill. Checked the handbrake was down etc, tried moving but nothing. Switched it off, tried again, this time in auto and exactly the same thing. Its almost like all the breaks suddenly engage. After the third time I got out to see I hadn't been clamped lol. Then on the 4th occasion all was fine. It was disconcerting to say the least. I thought it may be the tracker company Cobra and they actually did call after I got moving but they only called because the battery on my fob was low.

Any ideas? I can't recall seeing any warning signs on the dash.

many thanks
Don

I've not experienced locking issues, but on your original thread you have to play with the e-Gear party trick, down shift through the gears to a stop. Sub 3 revs is pedestrian friendly, post 3 revs down shift is just a big grin as she blips her way down biggrin Always though I put her to neautral from 1st just as I feel the clutch kicking in to prevent any slip, by which time your as good as at a standstill anyway. Enjoy smile
