I'm a big fan of the new electronic matrix signs....

Anybody had experience of inaccurate information on them?

Not inaccurate, but why are they turned off most of the time? I understand people may pay less attention if they're on all the time but random 'clunk click every trip and 'dont hog the middle lane' messages would have a positive effect IMO.

I know people are trying to do the right thing ... but my suggestion seems so simple and obvious ...

Good to hear!

Just need to get the traffic peeps in the SE to do the same (M4 for instance).

Yeah the one near me on the M60 yesterday was advising us all to slow down cos of spray. It wasn't raining and there was no spray. I guess they are only as good as the numpty operating them.

How about:

"Oi - YOU in the middle lane! Get over tosser!"

Seems reasonable to me

I don't think putting a message on a matrix sign is going to make the wind slow down!

Queue after next junction. Every time I try to stop, all these tw@ts come past me doing 80! Never going to try that again unless others have stopped!

Have to agree, many times they have been advising motorists of road conditions or events that are clearly hours out of date. Favourites are lane closures that arent, fog that isnt, or congestion thats not.

(Very) early mornings M25 - signs always say "Queue after next junction" and it`s always the barrier repair crew with lane 3/4 coned off (No Queue). Can`t some bright spark reprogramme the thing??

I wish sometimes they'd be more descriptive.

I was coming down the M6 once and saw one that said "Queue Ahead" with what looked like plenty of blank space for more characters.

Ok... slowed down a bit in preparation and carried on waiting for this "queue", which typically means a whole bunch of cars travelling slowly due to a congested junction or a steep hill or something like that.

Two junctions later *wham* hit the tail-end of a 10-mile long jam thanks to a pile-up. It was one of those engine off types where I sat outside for about three hours and admired the intricacy of motorway tarmac.

I wished the sign had said "GET THE HELL OFF AT THE NEXT JUNCTION!!!" or words to that effect.

"Queue Ahead". Hmmmphhh... Damn bloody right there was.

So Roadcop, the collective so far conclude this.

We quite like the idea
Currently they are rubbish
They should say more idiomatic things like "Oi tosser"
The people programming them should not be numpties.

Thats a bit unfair, our police are highly skilled and trained drivers, they can multi task, like using the handheld radio receiver, or a mobile, whilst eating a donut and taking a photo and steering in high winds with their knee...just like sales reps really, but not as good.

That piccy looks like it was taken from the passenger side of the car to be fair.
