Am I being messed around?
Discussion
Hi guys,
Placed an order for my CGTS at the end of November and had to 'lock in my spec first week of Dec' with the OPC - however they have allowed me up to a few weeks ago to add and remove options when they contacted the factory for permission.
They told me they managed to get me a Feb allocation instead of March and my car should be ready for March. Problem is, the OPC can never give me any real detail about when I should expect the vehicle and they haven't given me an actual build date for Feb yet as well? Is this normal in terms of how close we are to Feb or am I being completely messed around and soon I'll hear that my car won't be due until May/June...

Can only comment on my CGTS experience (reading) and I got lucky with a build slot, so from initial deposit to collection it was 6 weeks. The lock in happened just a few after but was told I could tweak for a bit but not paint and transmission, however if I did change the spec it would likely delay the delivery. I wasn't given a firm date, although I was given a ball park date, then they rang me 1 week before when it was on its way over from the factory. Based on what you've described it seems aligned to what I went through.
However I ordered last year (Aug) and the GT4 was not looming. So I'm not sure if the production turn around times are slowing. A lot of other people seem to now be reporting much longer build times.

They did assure me changing the spec wouldn't affect timing because it hasnt gone to build yet, but again, don't know whether that could be flim flam...I wasn't given a firm date, although I was given a ball park date, then they rang me 1 week before when it was on its way over from the factory. Is there anything I should do in terms of getting something in writing to say I have a feb allocation and car will be with me in March?

We ordered our Boxster GTS at the end of August and were offered two build slots, February for March delivery or March for April delivery (the latter because I was thinking of opting for factory collection, not recommended in March due to the likelyhood of bad winter weather in Germany and the legal requirement for winter tyres). The dealer held both slots for us until we decided late November.Placed an order for my CGTS at the end of November and had to 'lock in my spec first week of Dec' with the OPC - however they have allowed me up to a few weeks ago to add and remove options when they contacted the factory for permission.

We ended up opting for February build for March delivery. The dealer has kept me fully informed, first week December for warning us that the order was likely to be frozen "within a week" and two weeks ago received another call to say that our build completion date was confirmed for 3rd February and once that date had passed they would be able to forecast pretty accurately deliuvery date to them. So the dealer receives this information, a good dealer will tell you like ours, otherwise you need to phone and ask.

Sounds pretty straight forward, glad you've had a smooth experience. I tried calling earlier but he wasn't available so I've emailed saying I'd like a call this afternoon with a formal update on the status of my vehicle. Let's see what comes of it... This is the second Porsche we've purchased from OPC Swindon (Dick Lovett) and so far - touch wood - they have been first rate. The only downside is the 70 mile distance from we live.So I took a call from the Sales Manager this afternoon and as I thought, my car is not going to be built in February. His excuse was 'poor flow of production' and the dealership they swapped a build with for my vehicle had struggled to lock 'lock it down' and then he started going on about how hard it is to get a CGTS (like I didn't already know this!)
He now says he has a definite build date of April for me and he'll throw in another Porsche experience day for a friend!?
I genuinely don't know what to do here, I can walk away with my deposit returned or bite my tongue and wait anxiously until the end of April. I really want the car, but the experience has been shattered with these guys, I'm gutted and feel completely had off / let down by this OPC.
