I don't know if this has been covered before, but is the C63 exhaust valved?
I have noticed on my car that after the initial start-up bellow the can quieten down to the point that you wouldn't know it is running.
Even when driving it I can hardly hear the exhaust except at above 4k, and you know where thatleads on this car.

No it's not valved. The cold start program richens the mixture, increases the airflow and increases the revs. These combined with moisture in the pipes, by some wizardry, make the exhaust louder to ensure that the Cats warm up efficiently. You also need to consider that often when you're parked up there are objects around that will reflect/bounce back the sound waves so it can appear louder still.

The normal, warm, characteristics of the AMG exhaust are all due to it being well tuned. The general public don't want a car that sounds like a Corvette with aftermarket exhaust manifolds all the time, nor one that drones which is why the AMG exhaust sounds quiet until you're going nuts. However, stand outside the car and let someone drive it and you might change your mind.
The w204 C Class is very well insulated from outside noise, inside and, don't forget that the exhaust is behind you, projecting its sound backwards. To get a feel for it a little better, drive with the rear seats down; then you'll hear the musclecar-like rumble, and more crackles that's you knew it did. This heightens also if you were to opt for a remap in order to open the throttle fully (if we are talking 457hp "base model" engine).
