Hi all.

I need to replace a track rod end on my R registered (May, 1998) 4 litre Chimaera.

Are they a Ford part? If so, do you know what model so I can get them from my local Ford garage.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. thumbup

Sorry to gatecrash, but I also need a rack gaitor kit, is there an alternative part number for these?

See willow sports cars website , they have correct bits at good prices , £10 for track rod end and gaiters for £17.
Support the independant specialists I say if they do a good job.

I would watch the quality of QH parts, the last track rod end I bought had an elastic band securing the boot!

Hi Zed4. No worries about gate-crashing and thanks for your reply and the link. Opened the link and put in "TVR, Chimaera, 1998, 4.0 litre" in their drop down boxes and the site said the track rod ends were not compatible so not quite sure who's right and who's wrong here!!! Just thought I'd flag this up with you. smile

The code on the box of the ones I fitted (1997 with power steering)
QR 1384S as stated above cortina, these are QH products and I have never had any problem with them, most motor factors will be able to get them for you.

I just like to say there has been no genuine tvr track rod end, it is and always has been a ford part, as a lot of the parts on TVRs are, pulled from various manufacture's parts bins.

True but you get the correct parts from these guys, worth supporting IMHO.

+1
I have always felt that supporting the specialists will pay dividends in the end.
Not least of which, the suppliers like these (Racetech and Powers and others) stock the obscure stuff as well as the easy to acquire, and supporting them will help ensure they stay around for a long time to come.
IMO saving £3.00 today could cost us the ability to maintain our cars tomorrow.
I pay the 'TVR tax' because I thinks it's common sense.
Also, my box of receipts is full of invoices with little TVR logos; is yours? smile

If TVR logos tick your box that's great, me I do all my own maintenance, I when I first bought my car it had a full main dealer service record with it, the last one was 3000 miles ago it was well over £1000, I changed the oil and filter when I got the car home, out came some of the darkest oil I have seen, I just put it down to the old design of the engine, after another 3k I changed the oil again, this time it was like new, my suspicion was that they hadn't even bothered to change the oil at the service,
if I was buying another car I would prefer to buy from the likes of quinny, spend or any of the knowledgeable people on this site, rather than a pile of invoices, but we are all different and I can part understand the point of keeping so parts dealers going if they source new parts that have gone out of production.

No it wasn't. Not sure if they were dodgy Chinese knock offs but has made me wary of QH. Lots of discussion about the quality floating around too.

But what if I can get a pair of QH track rod ends from my local motor factor, or eBay for £10 a pair and the specialist is charging me nearly £35! It's hardly fair and it's probably the same part that they sourced from their local motor factor. I like to support my local independent motor factor. The last track rod end I bought for my Clio was £6!

Of course it's a different story if the cheaper parts are indeed inferior, but are they really? Or do they all come from the same factory?!

I agree with this yes but .......... if you must buy outside then stick something on better than QH (a real unknown quantity IMO) like Lemforder, Moog(federal mogul) Motorcraft OE etc
