Driver Training Days !?!
Discussion
Can anyone recommend any kind of driver training days that are ideally tailored around driving your own car, and training you what it can really do !?
(And how much ££)
Think I am a pretty good/ok driver (don't we all), but thought this would be a great way to find out how good/crap I really am, and teach me properly, exactly what my new cars (996 Turbo) limits are, without the trial and error on country roads and roundabouts etc.
(The girlfriend actually suggested it for her, after reading about it in last months GT Purely Porsche magazine ...... "erm no, I am really sorry babe .... I couldn't get you insured" !! I am sure everyone finds it equally impossible to get their girlfriends and wives insured on their cars too).

Ooops, yes you mentioned gf not wife so my mistake
And no, heaven forbid, would I do such a thing, tut tut...
Great feeling of anticipation when you're about to collect - on this occasion it won't be an anticlimax for sure.
Hope all goes well.

Agree with turbobloke - put my girlfriend on my Porker policy and it dropped it 100 quid. She's under 30 yrs old too.
I'm sure the insurers have stats somewhere about this, but I can't see how it reduces the risk - you've got two different people driving the same car, therefore the likelihood is the car will get driven more. The longer it's on the road, the more likely it'll be involved in an incident...
And they haven't seen my GF drive

Thanks Turbo, but marrying the girl just to save a few quid ... shame on you !! ha ha
Anybody have any ideas, and contact details of good/cheap Insurance companies? (Note good, not just after the cheapest).
Did a search on all former threads, and lots of people recommending Liverpool Victoria, but no contact numbers/addresses.
Will be calling around on Monday, to get best quotes. Direct Line (were cheapest for Tuscan) have quoted £1600.
27, full ncb, unlimited miles, garaged etc.
They did say that I need to have a tracker fitted though which is a bit of a pain in the arse.

Went on the Porsche CarsUK training/experience day last November, spent time on the road and then 3 hours at Millbrook, in my own Turbo (they did supply one if required)but I too wanted to be assured of what my car could do. Plenty of time spent practicing on the different area's both with myself driving and then the instructor (showed how good the car really is).
Not a cheap option, but not a day you will forget.

Sounds good to me...OK...how much?
and where? For driver training you could try Andrew Walsh. He advertises on this site as 1st Lotus and Car Limits. Course involves a day at North Weald and is intended to show you what happens when you run out of talent! It then goes on to show you how to handle it. There's only so much you can learn in one day but I thought it was an excellent experience. HTH

- GT2 etc in there, just no GT3. I just switched my Evo insurance over with Tesco - after the person I spoke to checked with an underwriter my renewal this week was £1149 with protected NCB etc. I'm a bit older than you though
Never made a claim with Tesco but their customer service has always been very good when I've needed to add people on the insurance, notify mods etc. They also require a tracker. I did get a quote from elephant which was about £50 more.
I would highly recommend John Cave (big jon) of drivetrain UK at www.drivetrain.uk.com
He does a full days road driving course in your own car for about £230 around northants, oxfordshire and the surrounding areas. Believe me, you will be using the car and yourself to your full potentials! He is a class 1 police driver and instructs/examines the persuit drivers and does commercial stuff too.
I have done 2 days over the last 2 years - one in my boxster s and later in my 996 c2 - I cannot recommend him highly enough and all the people that have done the course on my recommendation have been amazed by it (including my wife in her scooby)
Good luck
