Hi,

Not sure if this is the correct forum but I'm hoping that PH can help, here goes...

Brief overview first, approx. 2 years ago my father in law had a accident at work, he was working as a bin man when he slipped on exiting the cab of the lorry and fell under the wheels of the lorry as it was reversing...how he survived is being me, he spent a long time in JR @ Oxford and even more time getting back to some semblance of normality.

A barrister somewhere decided his claim against his employer was worth pursuing so after over a year of being on full sick pay he has been told there isn't a job for him due to the extent of his injuries, this leaves him with nothing.

My question is regarding what benefits he could be entitled to, CAB have been less than useless and I don; think he knows where to look next, can anyone help in pointing me in the right direction? I think he may receive some form of benefit but I don't believe it is very much, in this age when people seem to be claiming thousands I can't believe a man who has worked since he was 16 (including a stint in the army) and is now in his late 50's/early 60's can't get any help from the state.

I hope the above makes sense, any info or pointers gratefully received.

Make an appointment at the local Jobcentreplus/DSS office and speak to the people in there.

Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit

https://www.gov.uk/industrial-injuries-disablement...

I get this due to an accident at work a few years ago, also if awarded it can only be backdated the previous six months regardless of when the accident happened, so get the forms in quick. And it may also affect eligibilty of other benefits, so watch out.

Is he/was he a member of his employer's pension scheme? Is he unable to work? If so, he may be eligible for an ill health early retirement pension depending on the rules and definitions of the scheme.
