My partner has some mental health issues (not officially diagnosed yet), maybe soon (related to Alzheimers) and we want to complete the 2 types of LPA form, the finance one and also the mental health one. I want to be able to do this myself as much as possible and not have to pay a lawyer £400 or so to do it.

If someone has a link or can send me the forms I would appreciate it. I have found some site where they can send to me but there is a 14 day wait.

Any help/advice much appreciated, thanks

Hmmm, could be risky business doing it yourself. Probably better with a specialist in that field.

Use a solicitor.

If you cock it up it will cost you a lot more than £400 in the long run.

I have just done the financial one in respect of my mum.

The form itself is straightforward but if you don't use a recognised professional you need to get an extra person to act as a 'referee' (I can't quite remember the exact term)

I did this with my Father, I didn't use a solicitor as the process is fairly straight forward.

All the info is here: https://www.gov.uk/power-of-attorney/overview

If you make a mistake they just return the forms to you with the errors pointed out and you carry on from there. Took about 2 months.

We've just completed this on my parents (no issues yet ) and my Father has just completed it on his cousin (at her request.......whilst some of it looked manageable, in the end it just looked easier to get the solicitor to do it as they knew what they were doing etc....

Thanks for this, will try this way first.

I appreciate others comments too, much appreciated.

If I can organise my own mortgage and do the work instead of a financial advisor I am sure I can do this (not that I will repeat the former, what a major stress that was, F.A's earn their money believe me !!)

Thanks again
