Learning to drive.
Discussion
I'm currently learning to drive and as my dad had previously trained as a driving instructor, he is teaching me (he's no longer qualified). However, I've recently heard that before I take my test I'd have to have a certain amount of lessons with a 'proper', qualified instructor. Is there any validity in this or is it just an urban myth?
Many thanks in advance.

Nope, from here: https://www.gov.uk/driving-before-you-have-full-li...Many thanks in advance.
"Minimum driving hours
You can take your test as soon as you think you’re ready. There’s no minimum number of lessons you must have or hours you must practice driving."
The only thing it says about instructors is if you do pay someone, they have to be an approved driving instructor. https://www.gov.uk/driving-lessons-who-can-teach-y...
For what it's worth, I didn't have a single driving lesson before I put in for my test; which I passed first time
To put this into context - I had already been riding motorbikes since I was 16, then one winter when I was 24 I decided that I'd had enough of getting cold and wet, so I bought a Reliant 3-wheeler and drove that on my motorbike license until the following summer.
Reasoning that I had 8 years of road experience behind me on the bikes, plus 6 months in the Reliant as a 'car driver' I just put in for my test, using a generous friend's proper 4-wheeled car...who was happy for me to stick a second rear-view mirror into the vehicle for the test. Then just swotted up on my Highway Code etc.
Went straight though, no faults, thank you very much
