Try my logic with bikes...

If I owned a motorbike, any motorbike - I *KNOW* I would kill myself within a month because I would wrap it (and thus myself) round a tree.

I cant remember who told me, but its stuck with me since, and is a bit of advice I like to consider as a driver too:

"TREES DONT MOVE, you hit one, you go round it - not through it."

What happened to your 2 Tuscans

To be honest that is probably not a bad quote for a 50 at your age.... you've got to start somewhere.

Yes I was saved from going down this avenue years ago when considering a bike by
a) witnessing a collision where the biker had his left leg torn out at the hip joint. :gulp:
b) week later aftermath of an argument biker / pie lorry. Not much of biker remained other than a red streak down lane 1. :several gulps:

That cured me.

still have the limp and self dislocating shoulder from a bike accident in my yoof. I still hanker for a piece of brit iron (fancy a Commando) for some summer fun and Ace rides!
I'd never consider a ped, tooslow and vulnerable, for todays traffic IMHO (plus the embarassment of being overtaken by a cyclist, or worse being seen by your mates )

Damn, I love the Aprillas. I just don't really want to be maimed or killed. Its more the way drivers around here behave around bikes...

When I was 16, I had to walk 20 miles back home from a party. We found (no lie) a bike which had been dumped and got it going. My mate (15) drove it back with me on the back. (I'm not sure if he had ridden a manual before) anyway, the first thing which happened was that we both went over the back when we tried to set off. (Probably had a bit of cider!). Anyway, drove up a hill near my village, (in 3rd) it was nearly stalling so he went to stick it in second and give it loads of revs. Stuck it in first, we lost it and after doing some big weaves, we both landed on our left knees at about 15MPH !!!!!!!!! It was the worst skin injury I have had and I've had a few. It basically ripped my jeans open and removed a spoonfull of flesh from under my knee. Thankfully, I was drunk as a lord and couldn't feel it when I had to dig bits of gravel out of the wound. It was like a bit of sirloin.

I have never ridden a motorbike since and will never ride one either.

2 things put me off becoming a biker a couple of years ago, aside from the cost:

1)Doctors apparently call bikers organ donors

2)There is a coefficient of friction between skin tissue and tarmac which is horrifying

That's what decent leathers are for. It's not too expensive, I did my test, got all the gear and my first bike(GPz500 second hand) for £5K

sounds about right to me, I didn't get much in the way of sympathy whilst laying on a stretcher in A&E. they cut the leg off my best jeans and cut my BLJ to shredds to get that off too!!

Bikes are safe, its the falling off thats the dangerous bit
