South Yorkshire speed camera pratnership made a big thing about painting talivans yellow and blue. They now look like delivery vans.
"We're making them more visible to convince people we're not after their money" quoth PR Mr Brailey (or words to that effect).
That was months ago.
Now they're using tripod mini gatsos at the roadside.....and hiding the Escort vans right out of sight.
If anybody here uses the Chesterfield - Sheffield Road approaching Norton, beware the junction with Lowedges Road where the talivan used to park.....the Escort is hidden in Lowedges Road and the gatso is a pig to spot.

Yep seen the mini blue (same colour as traffic master cameras, funny that isn't it) deployed around the Oughtibridge area as well. Plus the old arguement of yellow lights mounted on them (why do Derbyshire have blue lights, are transit vans and have Police painted on them in big red letters) and we have a delivery van look. If some one "lost" control of the car and hit the thing would you be charged with driving without due care?

...and the authorities are reported in today's Sunday Times as wanting detectors banned "so that more covert speed check operations can be carried out"...
Now there's a surprise. They don't want to give you a chance to avoid a fine, they want you to carry on at the same (supposedly dangerous?) speed so that they can get some money off you.

I guess it all depends how much of a law-breaker you want to be ..
you can drive aruond over the speed limit and get the fines and pay them, after all 60 pounds every now and then is a small price to pay for driving fast.
If you want to drive fast then you're criminal already, so the points won't matter 'cos you will just drive after you're banned anyway .. many people do it already so why not one more? or two more or 5 million more?
or you can use a banned device like a radar jammer or detector (new legislation hoping to get through to ban detectors)so yuo nca speed everywhere except where there's camera? .. and maybe get a fine for using the equipment, and maybe points then maybe a ban but you can drive whilst banned anyway .. you're criminal, who cares ..?

There are people reading these posts that wouldn't bat an eyelid if you, or indeed any of us with a similar point of view, had an accident, I can guarantee that.

I don't think I'm a law breaker at all, apart from what I regard as minor trangressions while driving.
So far as I am aware my only 'crimes' are exceeding speed limits, mainly the NSL by up to 60-65%, and contravening the double white line rules, both of which are, or very easily could be, totally unnecessary systems.
Obviously I do my best not to get caught, but it is a sobering thought to remember that I could easily go from no points ever, to a ban in quite a short space of time, if I were to be careless or unlucky.
As to 'how far am I prepared to go?...well that is a bit tricky. I am not sufficiently wealthy that I would be happy to pay out fines for speeding, but I still feel extremely rebellious with regard to the speed factor in particular.

In reply to Deltaf The LRC 100 is what you need,unfortunatly you will need an extra ir head for the rear as well.
Though as i know you know, the laser jammer will not provide full protection.
I was recently done again NSL to 30 limit as I coasted in. There were three rubber phnumatic strips in the road. Not traffic counters but hooked upto a control box in van on driveway, also connected tiny hidden camera recording.
Any way after a chat with the pepioo crowd ticket went away eventually leaving my smouldering licence intact, well as intact as 9 points will allow.
It is now a matter of principle, I now gladly pay any amount to protect my licence and livlyhood. This means I would not blink at paying £500.00 a go for point takers. As i said a matter of principle, These scum are taking us for a ride.
A sorry state of affairs. Nick.

Whats pathetic is when people skirt around an issue and dont say what they feel.
Far too many weasel words spoken on this subject i believe, i just tell it how it is.
If you dont like that Mr Peterson, then too bad, your problem.
I dont see why I should compromise my position on this just to appeal to someones elses "sensitivities".

I accept you imply that you wouldn't drive in such a way (ie dangerous irrespective of speed) that would put you in such a position, but could it ever happen - would you ever admit to being wrong?

Not 100% sure of the question Dibble but here goes...
If i was to be reported for excess speed over the limit then so be it. Id not accept i was doing anything wrong though. So long as i was driving safely, with due regard for traffic/weather conditions, then just what IS the problem with exceeding the posted limit? I dont get a reward for travelling UNDER the limit, why should i get penalised for driving OVER it???
Before we get a rush of "the law is the law" type responses, we should remember that certain people MAKE the laws and the rest of us are supposed to just go along with what they say. Well stuff that! Im not a sheep, and i do what my morals allow me to. That dosent include other criminal activities that DO any harm others. If others want to do what nanny tells em to, then let em, just dont even try to impose it on me.(not you personally Dibble).
Im of the opinion that travelling above the speed limits shouldnt even BE an offence.
Why? Because driving safely above the speed limit is absolutely and entirely possible; i do it all the time, and im sure you do too.
Whats narking me is the constant ideas being pushed by the scammers that somehow its just not possible to do this and that it IS ALWAYS dangerous, while on the other hand travelling WITHIN the speed limits is ALWAYS safe.
If im deemed a criminal just cos i enjoy driving at a speed that they say i cant/shouldnt/wont be allowed to, then screw em all. Theyre NOT in charge of you or me or anyone, they just want to be, well what i say to them is this: Whats it like to want suckers?
Speeding isnt the be all and end all of road safety like these theiving bastards would have us all brainwashed into believing, and the more they push it, the more people like me will fight back, and we will ultimately win, because we are right and they are wrong. They just cant accept that its ok to drive faster than the sign says. What they dont get, is that the sign is bullshit, made by some councillor somewhere who has no qualification in road engineering and who had it put up for a political function, most likely as a result of likeminded plebs who he could pander to and keep his priveliged position come election night.
Btw Dibble, Ive not been done for speeding, not by a trafpol or a gatso/talivan; yet, touch wood, and ive never had an excess speed related accident and i hope never to have it happen.
