My parents bought a Peugeot 2008 special edition Crossway at the beginning of December. I used CarWow to get a really good deal with our local dealer. The car was ordered in white, which was a free colour, but also because she wanted white!

Whilst deciding on this model, I took them round lots of dealers and dealers were doing exceptional deals, to get our business on a typically quiet month

Last week, the Peugeot dealer rings and tells them they can't have white, as it's all sold out, but they can have a metallic colour, for an extra £15 a month. Now, the metallic colours are all dark and dull due to it being a limited edition using only a few of the normal colours. They would have a metallic, however feel annoyed they now need to pay extra for a colour they didn't want. At no point did the dealer say they might run out of colours when ordering!

They've now offered them a pre reg, 3 months old 0 miles. Again, only available in metallic, so the price is only £15pm less than the original brand new 15 plate car they ordered. I've spoken to other dealers from other marques, who now are unwilling/can't do the deals they offered us in Decemebrr, so we've effectively missed the boat

Am I being unreasonable being annoyed at the supplying dealer for not honouring the original car, and then charging us £15 for a colour they don't really want?

For the record, they'll have metallic, if it's the same price per month on the PCP

Should I ask them to discount the pre reg car to get near the kind of great deal I bartered when ordering the new one?

I'd only offer to pay less than the original deal for a colour I didn't want, not more!
Can they not build the White one you originally ordered? I assume it was an offer and limited edition model created to shift some already built cars

I wouldn't pay any more either. £495 extra is a sizeable percentage of the cost - just for different coloured paint!

Good question, why can't the factory build a white one?

It's a special edition, I presume limited run

The annoying thing is, I spoke to Peugeot customer services, who said there are some white ones in the network, so unsure if supplying dealer is only looking in group for stock

But you ordered it in December, if they've only just got round to telling you there are no white ones thats their problem not yours

Why did you advise them to buy a new car?

Where does he say he advised them to buy a new car?
If you're going to ask an off topic question, at least read the bloody post first?

Tell the dealer what Peugeot have said, and tell them that you want one of those as you ordered.
They'll have sold your parents allocated car to someone who saw it in the showroom and paid list (or close)for it, and are now trying to wing it.

If that is the case, your current supplying dealer is probably well aware of the white ones in the network, however they are most likely being held by other dealers who are unwilling to release them, preferring to sell them themselves.

As for charging you for metallic and you trying to negotiate the metallic to be thrown in, I would guess that they are already doing a storming deal; being as the deal was sourced via CarWow and they just can't afford to chuck in the metallic, too early in the year too, to start doing silly deals.

I know, shame on me, after all they've only sold someone a car they don't have, then tried to sell them one in a different colour that they didn't order for more money, or a second hand one in a colour they didn't ask for instead.
It appears my expectations are too high.
I note there's no explaination or discussion of where the ordered car went.

ETA - It appears I'm a bit grumpy after eating a large curry too late and being wide awake.
Any takers on where the white pug is?

Thanks, hard to find a new Peugeot that's worth buying.

Try reading it again, go slower or get someone to help you - if that makes it easier for you.

Well I've read it. I must be a bit dozy this late as, as far as I can see, the op's parents wanted a new car and he helped them to negotiate the deal/price

I'd tell them where to shove it - namely up their arse and threaten to forget about the deal altogether and buy something completely different

This, or at least threaten to do so.

Family member had ordered a new Audi Q5 with a particular spec and colour, no problem. Come delivery date it's somehow not available, and the dealer tries to put one across which has a few extra option packages that he wasn't interested in paying for. Some nominal discount was offered as a sweetener, but it was still going to cost more than what was actually ordered and agreed.

He told the dealer pretty quickly that if they won't supply the car that was ordered, he'd see if BMW could instead. The car was then suddenly the same price as originally agreed, but with the resale benefit of the couple of grands' worth of extra options.

Right, I know this is a bit 'someone on the Internet is wrong' but here goes anyway.
I'm a bit stupid.
Can you quote out the bit in the op's post for me where he advised them to buy a new car

Thanks for your help.

Your options are:

Buy a car from the dealer
Don't buy a car from the dealer

Either wa the dealer won't really give a toss.

Back on topic... The basic conversation is along these lines...

Mr dealer... We have a contract for you to supply a car at a set price. We are told there are cars available by the manufacturer. Consequently we believe we are within our rights to buy the car from a different dealer and expect you to pay for any additional costs in doing so if you fail to honour the contract as agreed which is what you are saying is the situation.

You could add 'we are prepared to accept an alternative colour on the same terms'

The speed plod law section on PH would word this better for you.
