Ive just covered four thousands miles in three weeks in a new VW Passat Estate. It was a mini lease to cover the gap between the return of my much despised Astra tourer and the arrival of my new yet to be despised Astra tourer. I was really looking forward to it, anticipating a nice environment to spend a great deal of my day.

On the whole it wasn't bad and certainly looked better than the Vauxhall. The economy is pretty impressive at an average of 49.8mpg on a combination of fairly fast motorway and stop start city driving, the suspension set up however was poor, it really was fresh out of ideas at the first sniff of a bend on A roads and wallowed. I wasn't expecting a sports car, however I was surprised at how very much better the Astra was in this respect. The dashboard also vibrated and buzzed like aunt Mabels rampant rabbit, when she's approaching the final fence?!? I'm not the only person to pick up on this problem and I would have been spitting my dummy out at the local dealer until it was sorted! very very poor. I came away from my time pretty indifferent about what is supposed to be a quality product and don't think it came close to the Hyundai i40 tourer I had for the same workload. Given the choice of VW products at around the same price I would much rather go for the Octavia or superb estate. I believe VW has lost its way a bit.

I'm just coming out of 4 years in a 2011 Golf Bluemotion Estate as a company car, and it's been quite poor. A clutch and fly wheel at 18k miles (I've never had to change a clutch in my entire driving career), a battery and alternator at 25k, it forgetting it has bluetooth once a year. Completely under powered (1.6 tdi) with a very unrefined engine.

On the flip, it's comfy on a run, interior is nice but I'd be gutted if I'd spent my own money and I'm pleased to see the back of it.

We had a 1999 Lupo a couple of years back for my wife and it seemed a much higher quality product!

The new Passat isn't available in Bluemotion guise yet. You must have drove a MK7 Passat, so you're basing your claim that VW has lost it on a car they don't even make anymore, and a loan car at that.

The MK8 Passat on the other hand is getting rave reviews.
