Hello...i moved over from the UK to the ROI 18 months ago, when i got there i imported the car got the docs and plates etc. We are moving back to the UK in April, I want to bring the car back permanently.
I didnt inform DVLA but Im not sure if the Irish side do that as a matter of course, think i may have seen something to that effect on the paperwork?
Can anyone please advise me on the procedure for this?
Cheers

Check on vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk if you know the old UK plate - it should say that it's been exported, but I doubt the Irish do that - that's not really their problem. You may find a SORN fine waiting for you.

When you get back, treat it as a lost V5C, so V62 form and £25. It's still in your name, and DVLA don't think it's been exported, but presumably the address will have changed.

SORN it asap. Then get a V5C through, buy plates, MOT it, tax it.

Thanks for that. Just to be clear...Should I SORN it now before I get back? and do I pay the back tax and fine now ..I presume there must be one.

If I dont SORN it now will it set the alarm bells ringing when I ring up saying ive lost the V5C. I presume I will have to tell them about the change of address when I ring up or do I do that if I SORN it now?

Thanks

Definitely get it SORNed asap, to stop the clock on anything they do decide to throw at you. Although, thinking about it, you're going to need the V5C doc ref to SORN it...

Wait for that to catch up with you.

Have you got a UK address you can use?

Yes I think I can sort one out but I wouldnt be able to rely on the address to much if they phoned up or something. I have a debit card to make a telephone payment but obviously its linked in euro to my Irish address
