Well I knew it couldn't last ... a whole year of ownership with nary a problem or an additional cost bar a battery going duff (and the replacement but that's hardly the car's fault!).
Near the end of 2004 the starter motor failed, 2 weeks before the service, so that was an expensive fortnight. The only bad outcome of the service (bar the 4 new brake pads ... just life really!) though was 'manifold gasket starting to go a bit ... not to worry for a while yet' so I got my wallet ready for the Wayxoyl and hood-waterproofing with the hope that would be it for a while...
Within 3 days of the start of the New Year the manifold gasket was well and truly blowing it's little heart out and I'd managed to lean a bit on the back 'window' and the stitching had proved itself rotten by letting go around the whole corner with hardly any effort!
So I now pronounce myself a proper TVR owner, no longer being able to get through the year with no extra work and having had to pay out for new starter motor, service, manifold gasket replacement, replacement back window, waxoyl, hood-waterproofing ... and, oh yes, the 'park sensor' for the windscreen wipers showed it needed replacement on the way to the garage to fix the other problems!
Ah well - we all know it'll all be worth it when I get the car back

Shit happens mate, to all cars, for example:
My Chimaera has cost me an extra £1600 when the oil pump lunched itself (fortunately on start-up)
My SAAB has cost me about £2500 for a new turbo, exhaust system, various sensors etc.
Granted, you may percieve the TVR to cost you more due to the various horror stories and pub talk. But despite the best maintenance efforts, things will go wrong with any car.
Glad you saw through it and remained confident?! with the marque.!!

I suspected it would cost me a 'bit extra' at some point but was basically hoping it wouldn't all be at once
Of course I'll stick with it ... though it would help the cause if this was the last thing to go wrong for a while or else my missus is going to get a bit edgy!
