I've had a 997 S on order since last April. The catalogues were out in July/August explaining just how fantastic the switchable sports exhaust system is. It's also been on their website for months.

My build is scheduled for April. Porsche keep telling me that the deadline for spec changes is x, but they're confident they'll be able to ring me x-15 days to tell me that the exhaust spec is fine. Still not had confirmation. It's not on the internal spec list yet.

Disgraceful.

Yes I'm afraid this is fairly typical - had the same issue with my 996 Facelift Sports Exhaust in 2002 - got it three months AFTER the car arrived!

What I find frustrating is that Porsche have had years to get this sorted yet they are still beaten to the drop by the likes of Uwe Gemballa and Speedart - both companies launching Sports Exhaust and Power pack upgrades within weeks of the cars launch.

The sports exhaust will be ready for march build cars!
I have already had a launch 997 2s whcih was only a short term measure as the launch options list wasnt complete, I am awaiting delivery of my proper 2s which will have the sports exhaust, but i'm having to put it back 2 months as my next car was due for march delivery so would not have the sports exhaust as factory fit, I'm getting one of the first march build cars now.

Good chance I'll have mine on the car before you then!

Normally the parts dept are good at getting back orders out as soon as the parts become available!

Not according to my OPC who phoned me this morning for the latest news. Still NO date for delivery of cars with a sports exhaust. I had to give them the go ahead for a build without the exhaust today for an April build.

In that case - has anyone considered the "Non-Porsche" options i.e Speedart & Gemballa? For about £1600 they have systems which include Sport Cat's, Exhaust, Filter and chip, and they claim a significant power increase?

That sounds great, my two concerns (being on a limited budget) are warranty and residual value. Do you know if the first is affected, and what's your opinion about the second?

Simon,

In the good old days i.e when I was running 993 Gt2's 993 RSR's etc. your local OPC would fit pretty much anything you wanted.

These days, they are regulated by what they can have in the showroom - they are prohibited from having a car in the SHOWROOM with any non-Porsche parts on it e.g Spoilers etc etc

As for exhausts - well I think like most manufacturers they recognise that fitting a sports exhaust does'nt really do any "damage" as such - so they are unlikely to invalidate the warranty due to that - Sport Cat's?, Chips?, maybe a slightly different story.

As far as resale goes - well you can always replace it with the original system and the sell the system on it's own ! In that way you will see no difference to a standard car - let's face it your average OPC / punter won't give you any more for a Sports Exhaust equipped car come trade in/sale time, so you might as well try and sell it separtley (you can't do this with the standard Porsche sports Exhaust by the way)

So it's a choice of waiting for the ELUSIVE Porsche system or getting an after-market unit.

Thanks for that, hadn't thought about keeping the OE stuff for resale. The only problem with a chip is I've heard of accident investigators finding them and invalidating the insurance. Trying to explain to my broker that I'm fitting a power increasing ECU will just be too much like hard work.

Anyone have experience with chipping and insurance?

I fitted a Tubi to my 360 and kept the old exhaust. When I sold the car, I removed the Tubi ( £190 cost to OFC) and sold the Tubi seprately. Cost £2200 inc Vat, sold for £ 1200 9 months later.
By the way, mine is also an April build and the sports exhaust is not an option for me either.
