Has anyone heard anything about Macklin Motors (they who run the Nissan dealership in Darnley, the ex Shields Ford and Mazda in Darnley and Hamilton and the ex Johnston Peugeot at the Phoenix in Linwood amongst others) opening up another branch?

I heard a recruitment advert for them on Clyde 1 on Friday saying they were looking for people to apply for positions at their new Nissan dealership at "Glasgow City Centre North" but I can't find anything online about it, or think of any locations in the North of the City ideal for opening a car dealership nor have I seen anywhere where it could be (I work in the North of the City) not to mention Arnold Clark already runs the Nissan franchise over that side of the City at South Street (used to be the huge Machargs) and at Royston Road.

Anyone heard anything?

They're part of Vertu, based in NE England.

As far as I understand, it'll be a temporary setup until the new place is ready, supposedly a multi-story showroom. From what I hear, Arnold Clark are giving up their Nissan franchises.

Has anyone else heard anything more about this or where its supposed to be, I'm told its meant to be operational as of 1st March but can't find any info anywhere about the location of where they plan to open a dealership.

That may not be a bad thing for the consumer in terms of customer service but I wonder if Macklin will be able to match Arnold's prices. I wonder what the falling out was about? Any more info?

I am led to believe that there will be two 'pop up' dealerships in the interim until a suitable permanent premise is found.

I notice the old Mercedes Commercial site is still boarded up on Pinkston Road. Wonder if that is a candidate?

Arnold has lost the Nissan franchise and will no longer be selling Nissan cars at his Royston Road premises. Can't say yet where Macklin Motors will be operating from.

Huge bit of vacant ground right across the road from Arnold's on Royston Road.... Wouldn't that be fun!!,

Any idea where the pop up sites are going to be?

Also where's the old Merc Commercial site on Pinkston Road? I drive down that road most days and I've never noticed what looks like a former vehicle dealership.

No Idea to be honest as to where. HGlasgow and East End so anybodys guess really.

The disused site I am talking about is on the corner of North Canal Bank Street and Pinkston Road. Been empty for a few years now - dunno if this will work, but here is the street view.

Ah,I know the site you mean now, was it not Ford and Fiat commercials rather than Mercedes, formerly Reg Vardy/Evans Halshaw and closed when Evans Halshaw moved the commercials side of thing into their bodyshop premises on Proven Road round the corner from their main Cumbernauld Road Ford dealership.
