Newborn Baby Seat
Discussion
I've searched through previous Child Seat threads but cannot find a definitive answer.
Has anyone successfully transported a newborn around in their Cerbie until the baby was big enough to sit in a child seat (recaro or similar).
If so what did you use, was it practical/safe etc...
Thanks
(A further drain on my resources due today!)

We used the car seat element of the Graco carry system, this system is now 4 years old and I don't know if it's still available in the form that we purchaed it. But it did enable the baby to go into the rear seat and allow the adult into the front. with the added advantage that once the rear belt is put round the seat and the front seat tipped back, the baby's car seat is further locked into position and prevented from moving in an up and down direction by the front seat.
Don't use the recaro until the baby is the correct weight, size, developmental stage etc. But do have the 'bar and shelf' fitted for the TVR baby seat as this makes the positioning of the 'normal' baby seat easier.
our newborn went in one of the bucket type seats quite easily in the front of the car, wife ended up perched in the back.
The seat squab is a bit short in the back for any of the new born rear facing type seats, but a 996 Carrera is just right....best find yourself 55k then if you want little one in the back.

Not sure that wedging a baby seat between rear and passenger seat adds to safety. To my mind that is risky in an accident!!
Perhaps I didn't make myself clear, the baby is the rear facing type car seat, then it is locked into position in the normal manner using the rear seat belt, then the front seat gives added, but not as an intrinsically designed in element of security.

Tried the Mothercare Mama's and Papa's 4 in one system which comprises; Chasis with Wheels, Carry Cot, Car Seat and Buggy Seat - The carry cot and seats all fit into the chasis (Which fits into the boot no problem!).
The car seat rests perfectly on the front passenger seat (rear facing) and is strapped in with the seat belt, and similarly to Torquemada's Graco seat, is wedged in by the front dash.
The only thing I need to be careful with is the wear and tear to the passenger seat getting it in and out.
I might put a towel or something down first.
Sorted!

I was told (twice) when i was looking for a newborn seat that the rear facing seats are designed to pivot at the rearmost base edge and with the top edge moving backwards and upwards in the event of a front on collision, forming a barrier for the small person inside. Obviously this wont happen if the seat is wedged against the back of the front seat (or the dashboard).
Now i don't know if this is correct or whether it's just part of the mythology surrounding car seats, but is worth checking. I tried LOADS of seats, but could only get one to fit saftely in the front pasenger seat.

If you have trouble try www.comfy-kids.co.uk they had a good range available when i bought a seat for my son, and they were cheaper than the usual shops.
If its any help I mounted a Graco 1st class in mine yesterday behind the paseenger seat
I've the mounting bracket and plate ensuring it has enough space to sit on. Because of the bucket seats there is no lateral movement and I'd say its safer than in my wife's family car.
This seat is both rear facing for non-sitters, then when they can sit up it can go forward facing and be reclined, then as they get bigger moved upright.
I've moved the Recarro over to behind my seat and that looks to be a non-starter alas, unless I can remove 8 inches from my legs! So I think I'll be cancelling the installation of a second bar and instead use a booster cushion and seat-belt adjuster combo for our oldest, then use the Recarro when our youngest is old enough.
