Might be worth contacting a few Porsche centres - I believe they are offering cheap(er) maintenance on some of the earlier cars - certainly on 986 but you don't say whether yours is a late 986 or early 987.

A major is about £400 at Porsche.

Porsche Centre Bolton charges "classic" rates for our 2007 Cayman, that's £80 per hour instead of £120. I don't know what that equates to for a service but it's worth checking the hourly rate wherever you go.

I was quoted £610 from Porsche last week for a major service on the Cayman.

Presumably your Cayman will be a 987 and newer. The costs are lower for the older cars.

The labour rate drops and you get a better parts discount. Four years plus and seven years plus from what I recall. They are trying to be competitive against the independents as they need to keep their workshop busy.

I prefer to use a specialist, where I can talk to the guy who's worked on the car - I hate having to deal with a service receptionist who (usually) knows a lot less about cars than I do, or isn't capable of explaining the things I don't understand (because they don't know either, they're just repeating what a technician has said). It also gives me more confidence that the work charged for has actually been done (rather than skipped because the technician is focused on hitting his bonus target rather than on doing the job properly).

Lots of good specialists in the North West, spoilt for choice really.
Unit 11 Warrington
Hartech Bolton
Sports & Classic Alderley Edge
Ninemeister Warrington
...all of whom I've used and would do again.

Then there's:
Tech 9 Speke
R & D Automotive Manchester
JMH Holmes Chapel
Jasmine
Porschapart

I'm sure there's a few I've missed too - all details are in the Wiki at the top of the Porsche General forum page.

Porsch apart is now called 9 apart. Porsche had a quiet word in their ear about the company name!

Up that way, near Ramsbottom is Loe Bank motors, an excellent Indy Ive used for years with older Porsches. Chris Sanderson runs it and is a great guy to deal with.
